Grandparent fodder
We knew our kids were in a Christmas play, but they kept the whole thing a secret. McGregor was one of the three kings, which in a witty twist, was The King of Rock ‘n Roll. Yes, my kid was Elvis in the Christmas play.
During his solo, McGregor rapped. (We are white.) And then said, “Thank you. Thankyouverymuch.” Oy vey. For our entertainment, there was also the King of Soul and the King of Country. No wonder they kept this from me. Don’t they know we’re Presbyterians?
;)
When Abigail walked up to the microphone, I’m like, “Oh my word. Is that my kid singing?” (Hush. I had 5 kids in the play and it’s hard to keep track.) She won’t sing in front of us (I’ve never heard her sing before), but she’ll get up in front of several hundred people and do this:
I don’t get it. Kids are weird.
(Did you see the three kings in the video?)

I was the same way growing up, singing for a crowd at church or school and not uttering one note in front of my parents. There was just something too intimate about the smaller “crowd” that seriously intimidated me. At least in a crowd I could focus on the song and not worry about anything else. Maybe all those blinding lights?
Beautiful children, as always.

I agree with Aimee. I loved to sing solos at church and in school when I was in middle school and high school. But just in front of a few people? Too stressful. Give me a big crowd. :-)

Aw, that is so sweet, Amy. You must have been so surprised! :)

Precious! What a fun surprise! Wish I could watch the whole play. Sounds very entertaining!

Oh my! I can’t believe that! She sings so well! My parents probably wished we would sing just a little less around the house (probably still do. ;)
I want to see the video of McGregor! Please tell me you did record it?! That is way too funny!

It’s all those years of fabulous piano instruction you’ve been giving her! ;-)

Lovely! Great job, Abigail. Now, Amy, you can’t just tease us about King Elvis. Where’s the video for that one?

For those wanting to see McGregor rap, I didn’t put it up because he doesn’t like being on my blog. My other kids like being on my blog, but I have to ask him before I tell stories about him or post pics. He’s actually a clown, but I can’t tell if he really doesn’t want to be on my blog or if he’s just being modest (yeah, right).
Boy, could I tell some stories if I didn’t have a filter on the “on” position…

Great job! I know what you mean about how kids will surprise you :-) Mine are still doing that as young adults. We wonder at times, Are they really ours?! lol
