Non-gnostic posting

Yesterday, I saw that two people came to this site because they googled “wailing” and “teaching your kids not to touch strange animals.” Glad I’m keeping it spiritual around here.

Remember when we met this great family?

John writes about our two families finally meeting, and I must note that he grew deathly sick after he wrote that post. Maybe he shouldn’t stretch the truth so much. He also confesses to misplacing his #9 daughter. I suppose he learned his lesson about being honest in posting and decided to spare no details. ;)

While we were living in California, we did not have laundry facilities in our apartment. Upon returning home, not only do I have a washer and dryer in my house, but it’s also pretty spiffy and family friendly. My handy husband can not only launch rockets and parse Greek verbs, he can also remodel laundry rooms. We’re only missing the countertop, but you’re looking at one grateful Mama.

I have the same machines and absolutely love them! Now, I can’t say the same about the room that hosts those fine machines. It’s a beauty. Good work Amy’s hubbie!

Love the laundry area! Very nice. And it is indeed a blessing to have adequate and working machines!

What? Prairie Muffins don’t use washboards??
I am coveting that laundry room, it’s beautiful. I like the moulding above the window, did he do that too?
Up until two years ago, I had an avocado green washer that I inherited from my in-laws. For as old as it was, it served us faithfully, only breaking down three times. (Which interestingly enough only occured whenever I gave birth!) Thank you, Murphy’s law! All that to say–what brand are those appliances, and are you happy with them?
Comment by Jo (April 27, 2005 @ 4:20 pm )
Jo, Greg is in process of casing all the windows and replacing our old brown baseboards with high white ones. So yes, he did do the moulding on that window, and it’s all his own creation (not prefab). [insert prideful grin]
The appliances are Whirlpool Duet HT, and yes, I’m thrilled with them. I know that the other front-loading brands had some recalls, but I haven’t had any problems with these. And believe me, we’ve broken them in this week. They’ve been running constantly, as six months of our house being vacant is a lot of dusty pillows, blankets, curtains, etc. I like that our king size comforter fits in, everything comes waaaaay cleaner, it’s more energy efficient, and uses less water. It also doesn’t have an aggitator, so your clothes supposedly last longer. (We’ll see about that…) I also like all the fancy options. We got these several hundred dollars cheaper (half price?) at a scratch and dent place because the front doors are scratched up.
But most of all…the little ones can REACH to switch the laundry for me.

I shall not covet, I shall not covet!
What a great room… but where is the laundry??

What a pretty washer and dryer! I want a front loader but I have heard bad reviews of cloth diapers in FLs. Maybe when I finish with diapering babes…

Hey, I’m not trying to cause you guys to sin by coveting! Will it all be OK if I tell ya’ll to repent?!
Meg, the laundry is all upstairs.
Kristen, I’m wondering why there were bad reviews on the cloth diapers. I don’t use cloth anymore since we have a two-story house now (bedrooms upstairs, laundry downstairs). But there is an excellent sanitize feature that works better than the whitest whites feature. When I did the last load of whites, I just used the “hot” option (not the whitest whites), and they all came super clean, even without bleach. OK, now this is sounding like a commercial, but it’s true.

Molly took my comment.
And, um, you don’t want to know the Google strings that bring people to my blog. Let’s just say I’ve written about spanking before, and leave it at that.

Kristen,

ME TOO… Some real sicko’s peek at my blog every day, and it’s amazing the things people use Google for, let’s just put it like that…
Oh well–at least they’re not leaving comments!
(always something to be glad about, right?)…
Comment by Molly (April 28, 2005 @ 1:01 am )
Heh, I almost wrote, “I bet Molly has a worse time of it than I do,” just because you’ve written on the topic more often and in more depth than I.
Anyway, not to hijack!

I think the cloth problem is that without as much water, you have to do more rinsing to get them clean. The person I know with a FL does two or three extra final rinses EVERY load and I have read similar reviews online. When we’re up to buy a W/D we will definitely research more, because my husband loves the FLs. We just admired them (again) at Best Buy on Saturday!
ASIDE - I am going to always be lower case to distinguish myself from the other Kristen ;o)

About the cloth diapers…maybe the load is not big enough. FLs work best when they are full of clothes, believe it or not. I was also told to always rinse my whites twice. My machine has that option so I use it when I’m washing whites.

kristen with the small k,
I noticed that the FL’s have a pre-soak and Auto-soak feature. I wonder if that’s been tried. By the way, when I used cloth diapers and had my regular washer, I had to rinse several times too. Don’t know if that’s helpful or more confusing…

The real question is how long it takes to wash a load of clothes in this beautiful machine. I’ve heard it can take 90 minutes to run a load through a front-loader. I can wash AND dry a load of clothes in that amount of time. I’ve been hesitant to spend so much money for a machine that will mean more time in the laundry room, no matter how beautiful the space!

Ohh, Amy, what a nice laundry room! Ho hum, here I go down to the laundry shack (read: university laundry facilities). I have to say my attitude toward my much maligned laundry shack changed when I talked to a missionary couple we are supporting who are about to leave for Indonesia, where she will beat her clothes clean in the stream. Hmm… whoo-hoo, laundry shack!!

Amy, I’m coming to YOUR house to do laundry!!!! I will drive the 45 minutes!!! It looks much nicer than my carport laundry room that is probably full of bugs and such as is common in our wonderful state. I may even be tempted to FOLD in a room like that!!!
Comment by eryn (April 28, 2005 @ 8:45 pm )
Suzanne, A very large load takes 40 minutes washed on normal setting, and about 17-20 minutes to dry. I don’t know if this is longer or shorter than it used to be. It can take a long time if you use the sanitize or bulky items features (over an hour?). There is also a quick wash cycle for when you’re in a rush. We got these mainly because they were the same price as regular machines since the doors are scratched up, and because I wanted to lay a long counter over the washer, dryer, and cabinets. We need to make the best use of space in our house, and this is a better use than we’d previously had.
Eryn, please come and do your laundry. We can put everything on the sanitize cycle so you can sit a long time after tea and/or dinner.

I’ve found that a good way to get google hits is to spell words incorrectly. Throw in an “origainal” once in a while and see who finds you!
I find most of my typos this way!
Memo to self: No blogging about spanking.
