Amy, we do the same thing. I am always surprised by how little they really want to know. A short, simple answer is usually enough.

Jo,

We do not edit graphic passages from the Bible when we read aloud to the children; I know that some families do though. All Scripture is profitable, and I'd rather their first exposure to "that kind" of sin is from God's point of view than another. That being said, when they ask what fill-in-the-blank is, we give them an age appropriate response, using phrases such as "forced her to act like his wife" etc. This is enough for now, and they've never asked for more details. They will get the details, however, when they do eventually ask for them.

I know some may have a different take on this, and that is fine by me. (Not like you need my permission, but you know what I mean... :) )

Hi Amy,

Can I ask a question totally unrelated to today's post? When reading the bible to your kids, do you edit out certain passages that are graphic? I'm thinking in particular of King David and his family's misdeeds. Do young kids need to know about rape and incest? I've skipped over some events and reworded other passages. What do you do?

Happy Mother's day!! :)
