Oh, and this was cute. The other night our oldest 15 1/2 year old young man was sitting at the table and we were going down Memory Lane--HE welled up and said, "I feel sentimental, can we play some old family videos?" dh->John and I loved that!

I look at my children out the window sometimes when they are playing or working in the yard and break into: Sunrise, Sunset....Is this the little girl I carried?, is this the little boy at play? I don't remember growing older, when did they? O.K. I'm teary-eyed, time to go hug my children...and young adults, gulp.

... but because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to own whatever he was going to tell me.

Yes. Exactly.
"Oh, the one with her skirt above her head? No, that isn't my daughter."

"The one singing the song backwards to prove she can? Umm ... never seen her before."

Amy,

Our children are in children's choirs too and it is so sweet watching them sing...when they behave! Our five year old just had his concert and we were so pleased with him. In the past, he would be placed right next to his best friend which meant they would just cut up the whole time and not sing. But this year he sang everything and after he was done he jumped up and down and said, "I did a great job!!!" (No problem with self-esteem there :)
Our oldest was another story. Even though he knew all the songs and had learned every single hymn of the month, he was not a good boy at his concert. He seems to always get placed on the top riser and then gets lost behind someone. He also gets placed next to his friends. So the whole concert he sang a little and then looked behind himself at the big screen and then would swish the big curtain around for a while. Needless to say, we were not happy.
But all in all, those times are so precious and it always helps to have a reminder about treasuring them.
Tomorrow night is our children's choirs annual hymn sing where all the choirs, age 3-5th grade lead a time of singing. It always warms my heart.
Blessings.

I will add to the "thanks for the great reminder." My little one is 11 months (today acctually) and is sick and teething and wanting to nurse about 26 hours a day. I too am sick and just wanting to rest. And yet days like this are so fleeting and the joy of the sweet baby days will be gone soon. I'm looking forward to the talking though, I want to know what is going on in that little head of hers.

Dh is working in Maine until a job opens up here so I'm joining the dh-out-of-town club once again! It is certainly a balm to the mommy's overworked-stretched-thin soul to hear a nice comment when daddy is gone!

This is so true. Thanks for the reminder. I haven't been too patient with my dc since hubby has been out of town.
