In this house, we love and fear the Lord, honor God with our possessions, give thanks in all circumstances, love others above ourselves, pursue wisdom, show hospitality, forgive liberally, and refrain from letting the sun go down on our anger in order that Christ might be glorified and enjoyed in our family.

I think it'd be an interesting exercise to see what we would come up with now, years later.

We looked at what the Bible had to say about living, and from that, developed a family mission statement that hangs over the fireplace in our family room.

You know, we have never officially drawn up a family mission statement, but for the life of me I cannot figure out why we have not. We do make very deliberate decisions and many of our friends just shrug their shoulders and say, "You'll have to move to the hills if you want to live like that." Still, what a fabulous gauge. I believe I will bring that up to Jeff tonight. What a fabulous date night journey! Coffee, a pad and pen, and the beautiful task of laying out a family mission statement.

PRAISE THE LORD! I am so pumped about this!

Intentional living is a rare but beautiful choice. And I agree with you about blogging for clarification, the comments offer further insight always.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately too. My husband and I don't have this completely ironed out, and we change things around now and then, or find we've been too lax in one area or to strict perhaps in another. Maybe one of the reasons God doesn't just spell out every single detail is so we do have to incorporate thoughtfulness into our everyday life.

Awesome, Amy. You state very well a big reason why I attempt to maintain a blog. Private journaling didn't quite do it, although it helped at times, but feedback (or the prospect of it) helps me to be more deliberate, and sometimes to spot the weaknesses in my opinions and beliefs even before I post. Which is one of the reasons I usually don't post very often -- it's not for lack of things to write about or discuss.

Thank you for expressing things so well, and for encouraging me in biblical deliberateness. However that may look in our own family.

We do have to be careful to be deliberate in the habits we cultivate. I wish hubby and I had started right away (also about 8 years ago - dec 1997) forming our family according to Godly principles instead of worldly ones, but it took us a few years to catch on. We also had a lot of family issues to work through. But God blesses us when we try!

Good thinking, Amy. Without being deliberate with our lifestyle, I think we often end up in a place we didn't want to be.
