A named blessing
Monday, Mar 6, 2006
Late last night my husband and I decided on a name for our new treasure: Charles Liam Scott. Our infamous Naming Criteria List set some high standards, and yet the name we chose meets the most important feature—it fits him. He is named “Charles” after his paternal grandfather (Greg’s dad). We will be calling him “Charles,” but we’ll allow people who identify themselves as Peppermint Patty to refer to him as “Chuck.” Don’t do it, otherwise.
I plan on recounting an abridged birth story after we are settled in and putting up a few more pictures.

Hooray, Hooray! A name for Baby Scott. Now you’re not going to insist on calling him Charles Scott…in the Charlie Brown shows, besides Peppermint Patty, all the kids call Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown.
Can’t wait to hear the rest of the details. What a blessing to welcome a little one!

Congrats again and welcome baby Charles Liam!! Beautiful name, Amy.
Remember how I thought you could name him ‘Binky’, after my bil?? Well, Binky’s son, my nephew, is Charles Scott. So, it’s all good. I affectionately call my nephew ‘Charlie’.
Lovely quote from one of my all time favorite books.

Amy,
What a great name! Charles is a family name for us too - my father and grandfather. Your precious little one may be someone’s “Pop Charlie” someday:)

I dared not leave my congratulations in the sea of comments yesterday lol. So, now that today seems a bit more subdued congratulations! That is about one of the best books I have ever read. My husband says that is my “mission” book to give to all my friends. It is so real! Can’t wait to hear your story and see more pictures!
Blessings and Rest?

Congratulations, Amy! Love the name. My grandfather was Charles Walden Brooks N. (4 names)! I always thought it was such a pretty name. He went by Brooks, though.

Congratulations Scott Family!A new child is always a blessing and loked-forward-to event. I agree with one of the comments above, it makes me excited and not-so-patient to hold my little one, and I still have 16 or so more weeks to go!

Congratulations! A well chosen name
I love the quote from Stepping Heavenward! It has been awhile since I have read the book, so a very nice reminder of how truly blessed we are as mothers. Every day, not just on the day of our children’s births.
May the Lord bless each of you with sweet rest and peace as you enjoy your newest family member!
Anxiously awaiting for our sixth….4 weeks in counting….

Congratulations! Given your P. Patty comment, I guess that means that we have to all identify ourselves as “Marcy” since she’s the only one who says “Charles”.
OK, Amy. We have all the vital info. Go be a mommy. We’ll be fine here.
Comment by Brendt (March 8, 2006 @ 7:49 am )
Congratulations on your new baby BOY, Charles!!! While you are basking in the light of a brand new SON after having 3 daughters, we are hoping for a GIRL on this one after 4 sons!!! I know y’all are just loving it! Besides this fact that it’s just a relief not to be pregnant anymore.

Little babies in the home make a home come alive! Congrats on your new little blessing and congrats for choosing a name. My husband and I waited almost two months before we decided on a name for our children. We wanted the names to fit their personalities and they do…

Very nice name! Reminds me of Laura Ingalls’s dad.

Amy - I know I already commented, but I wanted to tell you thanks for including the Prentiss quote. It’s one of my very favorites - I even had it in mind to maybe paint on the nursery wall. You reminded me about it just as I was finishing up the design for Jack’s baby announcements (and yes, he’s been here for nearly 2 months and I’m just now sending out *announcements* - supermom, I ain’t) so I included it on the bottom. A lot of the announcements are going to people who think we’re nuts for having three kids. I’m just not able to enter a big theological discussion with all of them and I felt like this quote would be a good testimony. I doubt it will change all their minds about our mental status, but I hope it will at least give them something to think about.

Thanks for all the well-wishes, name suggestions, and prayers.
If necessity is the mother of invention, I think you should
watch out for memake an investment in my ideas. I might strike it rich with all the new inventions forthcoming. It was late in the day when we got home from the hospital, with our newborn in hand, stack of important papers, and a miscellaneous rubber squeezie thing. I was standing at the kitchen sink—doing whatever it is that I do there—as all the mayhem clamored around me. Someone wanted a drink, someone wanted to know what’s for dinner, and the baby wanted to eat or be changed. I don’t remember.
I know I alluded to a birth story, but a few days have passed since I even turned on the computer. Maybe I’ll get it posted later today? Brendt mentioned above, “OK, Amy. We have all the vital info. Go be a mommy. We’ll be fine here.” And so it goes.
While the rest of you carry on with your lives, I’ll be brainstorming during the wee hours of the morning. I’m inventing a contraption that makes dinner, nurses the newborn, and speaks kindly to the children simultaneously.
And no, it’s not frozen pizza, a sling, and heavy dose of Starbucks coffee.

Great name, I particularly like Liam. I need a dog so I can name something again. I miss naming my babies.

Ohhhh, if I could only hug you and get a little sniff of that newborn baby smell I would be floating along with you! CONGRATULATIONS and GOD’S BLESSINGS to you all.
I love the quote from Elizabeth Prentis. I’ve had it written down for several years to use as a baby announcement again . . .but . . . there’s no announcement yet.
God’s healing and love to you . . .Loni

Congrats on Chuck, I mean Charlie, no, no…Charles!
Much more dignified! Blessings to all your clan!
Now if Spurgeon was the middle name…you could have at least a year long of discussions on your blog over that.
May God bless your Charles to be a mighty follower of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with a heart devoted to our Lord and His purposes all the days of his life!

[...] Insightful quotes “Here is a little mouth to kiss; here are two more feet to make music with their pattering about my nursery. Here is a soul to train for God, and the body in which it dwells is worth all it will cost, since it is abode of a kingly tenant. I may see less of friends, but I have gained one dearer than them all. Yes, my precious baby, you are welcome to your mothers heart, welcome to her time, her strength, her health, to her most tender cares, to her life-long prayers! Oh how rich I am, how truly, how wondrously blest!” Elizabeth Prentiss’ Stepping Heavenward (Stolen from Amy’s blog) [...]
