Blessed

There is nothing like a newborn around the house to remind a woman that she is blessed. The squeaks, the content sighs, the soft downy head all tell again and again the goodness of God. Yesterday we sang in church Tell Me the Old, Old Story, and I thought of how the story of Jesus and his love is told to me in more than just words.
In any time of trouble, a comforter to me.
My seven-year-old son sat next to me in church, holding the hymnal for me while we sang together. He did not know the tune very well, and I smiled hard as he sang loudly and confidently. I think he was concentrating on reading the words that he forgot about the tune part of things. When the song was over, he whispered, “Mom, the notes go up and down a lot, but it’s a good thing I can sing it so well.”
Yes, I am glad he can sing so well.
That wonderful redemption, God’s remedy for sin.
While faith comes by hearing the Word of God, our faith is made stronger by His constant everyday goodness. It is there if we will see it. Precious newborn babies and seven-year-old boys who love Jesus are just some of the ways that He sends us more faith for the road ahead.
Oh, how abundant is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you…
~Psalm 31:19a

Your story of singing praises together is beautiful. You have alot to rejoice about. I used to have hopes of having my six troups form a little singing group. We would go and sing hymns and such for shut-ins. Three of mine take on their father’s singing capabilities. The other three take on mine. I sing well of course. Anyway, we won’t be singing to make a long story short. With have the group tone death we get the coyotes howling. Aren’t you glad though that Jesus hears the melody of our hearts. There is nothing like hearing a child sing praises to God confidently in tune or out of tune. Rejoicing with you Amy!!

I had the same sort of moment yesterday with my 7yo singing next to me - only my 7yo is a girl. I’m thankful for those moments of “everyday goodness” to treasure as well!
Congratulations to you all belatedly as well! So glad that you and babe are safe and healthy. ((hug)) Indeed, much to rejoice over!

I love that your seven year old and my 4 and 5 year olds think more of singing to the Lord than singing in tune for those around them. I love when my boys get lost in a praise song..at church..in the car or at home. You are right..blessings we can see…
Thanks for a great post..and for posting during these early days of your new son.

I grab ahold of the scripture in Psalms about making a joyful noise unto to the Lord when applied to my singing. Good thing the rest of my family can sing and drown me out to those otherwise poor folks who had the unfortunate chance of sitting in front of me!
Love children singing to God. If I smile at it imagine the grin God has going!
Thanks Amy for posting even though you must be very busy.

Watching a child during worship is one of God’s greatest blessings, for us and (I imagine) Him.

I love that you can tell just by walking in certain homes that, “there’s a newborn baby here.” Don’t they just have the best smell? Someone should bottle it!!
I heartily agree with you about singing praises with our children. It makes my heart swell with thankfulness to our Lord. Just this past Lord’s Day my three year old, Kirk, was belting out, “Your blood has washed away my sins, Jesus ‘fank’ you…” How precious!!

Amy, your post reminds me of my six-year-old daughter, Anna-Rose, who just loves Jesus to pieces, and shares Him with strangers wherever we go by singing them hymns. “Do you know this song?…Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so….” Like your son, she does sing well, only she tends to perfect the tune while butchering the lyrics. She’s become quite gifted at using her own method of artistic license to add and delete in order to inject the gospel message into every tune. A musical evangelist! What a sweet sound it must be to the Lord’s ears hearing these earnest young voices rising up to His throne…..even when they come from the depths of WalMart. P.S. Sounds like you and Charles are bonding madly.
Aaah, the delicate peachy fuzz of a baby’s head against my lips. Delicious! You are blessed indeed.

Thanks for sharing that, Amy.
You know what else I love besides hearing children sing without reserve? When they are going about their day and out of the blue they are quoting catechism or a passage of scripture we just memorized. Our four year old son has been doing that lately. Today I corrected him once as he was saying Ephesians chapter 2 verses 1-6 (we are still working on vs 7-10) and he looked up at me with a smile and continued on
Now that is meditating upon scripture!
May each of our children grow in the knowledge and grace of our precious Saviour!

That’s beautiful, Amy, and so very true. Thank you for sharing your birth story… I can so relate to the delayed feelings of joy; thankfully they do come! Praying for you during these first few weeks of life with the newborn… Congratulations on your newest blessing!
