Ok, let me see if I can do this...it's all in effort to praise my industrious wife, so I'll give it a shot.

(My apologies, Amy, if this ends up being a muddled mess of html codes! Feel free to delete.)

Of the following 3 cakes - one is "professionally" done, the other two are my wife's creation.

Looks good enough for me! :o)

Don't feel bad, Amy. A majority of Americans are right there with ya. Our system of things has made sure that not many people have or will have the opportunity to taste real milk and real cheese or real dairy whipped cream. The imitations are mostly whats available. It still stumps me that real cheese is made and sold in Europe. Their country is much older than ours. Yet, here we can't even take it through customs. It is too dangerous they say. It is to dangerous to the current industry. If folks realized how putrid mass produced cheese is they would abandon it instantly in comparision to real cheese. So it is dangerous to the industry not the public health as the media would like us to believe. Praise God for activists here in the U.S. who are bringing back real cheese and effectively working to get the USDA to loosen the strong hold. The sad part though is most of these good products are priced right out of most people's budget. Done ranting!!

I am with the other commenter. I have tried homemade cakes. Mine are just too dry. The last two birthdays here were Betty Crocker cakes.

Milkmaid, I don't believe I've ever tasted real milk. :bigsurprise_ee:

I used to think the SAME thing about "quarter" past! It makes much more sense that way, I think. Anyhoo, just had to comment because I have gotten so made fun of by the very few people I told that to!

Seems everyone is being pretty generous to me. :) Or they're just not saying it out loud...

I was thinking about this some more today, Proberbs 32, is that like the pastor who told his congregation that the next week they would be hearing a sermon on lying and to prepare by reading Mark 17. The next week, he asked how many people had read the chapter. Many of the congregation put up their hands. The pastor smiled, explained that there was no Mark 17, and began his sermon on lying.

Birthday cakes! Our boys' birthday cake tradition is that they pick the flavor of cake & flavor of frosting and Mama (that's me) takes it from there. Years ago it was box cake mixes and canned frosting, now it's all from scratch. We end up with 'keepers' and 'never agains!' My oldest remembered a pistachio cake from the 'box years' and requested it for a recent birthday. It was a let-down and "not as good as I remembered!" I think they're just not used to the 'chemical' flavors of box cakes and puddings anymore! :)

Prov 31:14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

That doesn’t mean fast food or pre-made bakery cakes? I had to go and get it, didn’t I? I always laugh when driving through any number of fast food places around here on my quest to be a Prov 31 lady.

Comment by Also Amy (June 14, 2006 @ 1:27 pm )
I no longer feel guilty about fast food. Thanks Also Amy!!! I also really liked Proverbs 32, I've often quoted the Book of Jaylene!

Very funny! My son said one day, many years ago, "You mean I can't marry you when I grow up!" Eureka and sweet at the same time. Those "boughten" cakes just don't taste as good as ho-made or as a cake mix cake. But I have to admit I like tub icing.
