A few posts back someone asked for a picture of the space shuttle cake. It is appropriate to post, as the shuttle is supposed to go today. We’ll spend the day at Greg’s family’s house. (Greg does rockets, not the shuttle.) They live on a lake, and the tradition is to ski, watch fireworks, and tell stories about the previous years’ mishaps. Our favorite is the one about the neighbor who ran his Seadoo into his boathouse and left a cartoon-like impression in the side. The story gets better every time we tell it. Every family has their stories, and this is one of ours.
At Thanksgiving with my family, we always mention the time my grandmother (God-rest-her-soul) said when all was quiet, “This is the WORST dressing I ever put in my mouth.” We always use the line, whether or not the dressing is good.
I bet you didn’t know that I could water ski.

My husband and I were just talking about our trip to the lake that we are going to take with some new friends at the end of the month. I said, “I wonder if they know about my prowess as a waterskiier?” He just laughed. He once said that for someone who was not athletic I was a pretty good waterskiier, so the laugh was to be expected.

That cake is so neat! I love it!

Cute cake! I mainly am a “lurker” and I wondered if your husband was involved with the shuttle.
Your Thanksgiving story made me smile and remember my late MIL. She ALWAYS commented on the turkey and for some reason, it was ALWAYS too dry. Now, one of us will comment that the turkey is too dry and then start to giggle. (Explanation needed for nonfamily guests.)

great cake! good work. I can’t imagine being a family member of one of the shuttle team. It would be so terrifying I think. I sure hope all goes well this time.

Ah….the space shuttle made it too! Yah! (My fil does space shuttles….not rockets. So I’m quite happy for him!)
Cute cake!

Cute cake! I’m sure it made some “little peoples” happy.

Look how little your kids were in that picture! They grow up so fast! That dressing story reminded me of a story of my great grandmother. We were sitting at Thanksgiving dinner and she was seated next to my husband and she said, “I don’t know you, but I sure like you!” She was quite old and having memory problems. It was really cute. We still use that line!
Hope you had a wonderful 4th!

Now that I’ve picked myself up off the floor, where I fell from laughing at myself: In typical Canadian fashion, when I saw the word “ski”, I of course thought of, you know, _skiing_. On snow! I immediately thought to myself, “WHAT?? This woman lives in FLORIDA! Where are they going that they’re SKIING IN JULY????”
Oh. Waterskiing. Um, yeah. I get it.

Hi, Amy. I found you via minthegap’s blog. What a beautiful family you have :). We love making cakes like yours for our kids too (never yet bought a store made cake lol). We have made an aircraft carrier, castles, yellow brick road for Dorothy, a pirate ship with big sails, etc. It’s a lot of fun, isn’t it?!
Have you ever seen the website http://www.christian-homemaking.com? You may find it interesting.

I love making cakes. I make all the kids b-day cakes, and as you know, it is much less expensive.

Oh, by the way, I love the ‘4′ hat. Is that something you always do? Cute idea!

I’m impressed!
About the water ski thing, but the cake is cool, too.

Great cake…We like to do up personal cakes, too. I’ve done a pirate ship (with the candles sticking out the sides like cannons and gunwales), football field, hats (for my son’s “hat birthday”…he really likes to dress up), and my personal favorite-the battle zone. It was a war-field with bunkers, logs (Twix cookies), and poor dismembered little army men (with strawberry jam at the severed part). I know, gross and NOT funny at all (well, okay, we thought it was funny), but a HUGE hit with all the little boys.

Hi Amy!
I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time now, since a few months before your most recent baby was born. (BTW, he’s incredibly cute!) I really enjoy reading your blog because you’re so funny. But this is my first comment.
I love the cake! That’s so clever!!! (And your children are ADORABLE)
I saw the video of the quadruplets laughing… SO cute and SO hilarious!

The shuttle carries people; rockets don’t. (I feel the same way, Crystal.)
I’ve only seen snow 3 times…and that was 3 times too many.
No, I’m a slacker.
To all first-time commenters, linkers, and newbies–thanks! ((the quad babies are in the sideblog…)

Just stopping in again to say hello…I admire you for making such a cute cake! I’m so intimidated to try and make a special cake…but did make a plain round one that turned out cute for my oldest’s third birthday. Usually, though we go to Costco…they make a great filling!
Anyway- great job with the shuttle cake!
