Danielle, Yes, rubber trees have latex. You do get mosquito larva – but you don’t have to run it all the time, just frequently enough and add a little bleach – kills the larva and keeps the fountain algae free.

Ashley, thanks for coming out of lurkdom.

Laura, It is inspiring, isn't it? (Keep in mind that there are several adults living there and no children.)

Hi Amy! I've been a long-time reader of your site but I've never commented before. I think your yard looks great! I used to live in Florida (my parents still do) and I can't imagine doing all that in the summer heat! I love your rose bush climbing up the side of the house like that. Keep up the good work!

What a nice thing to say to encourage your hubby but are we talkin' indoor work as well? I'd like to encourage you and say that all your kids and your house add up to a ton of service...here's a pat for your back! :o)

Do rubber trees have latex in them? If you don't leave your fountain running all the time, do you end up with mosquitos?

oh.my.goodness!

I just clicked on the link in your comment above (to your mentors' website) - and, wow!

I'm a country girl who is now firmly planted in the city, thanks to my hubby's job, and I have struggled with how to spread my roots amongst all the concrete & asphalt surrounding me.

Their page has given me inspiration - I haven't read it all, but I've bookmarked it and will peruse their writings when I am able to... I'm not sure that I have the manpower to do all that they've accomplished (it's just me for now, since hubby isn't much of a gardener - until I can get him on the bandwagon) but I can sure do more than I have accomplished thus far.

Thanks for the link!!! :-)

PS I also liked your pictures - the kids are adorable...

Andrea, Our yard is a .3 acre lot, which is larger than my urban California mentors' at Path to Freedom. We are talking about adding some raised beds in like fashion.

That's cute that you remember her name, as I haven't referred to her as Baby Energizer for a very long time. It is sad that she isn't the baby anymore, but she still cuddles...
