My husband says that I’m losing my edge. I disagree. I’m just keeping the posting pleasant to coincide with the weather: nice and warm. There is always good reading in the sideblog.

We are hauling 10 yards of mulch today. (Yes, by hand.) We usually do this every spring, but we were busy with a baby this year.

My Don Juan climbing rose is doing alright. Roses are heavy feeders, and I haven’t been keeping up. Fortuniana rootstock is important in Florida.
Yesterday, we cut oak, pine, and rubber tree limbs. This is one of two piles.
My father-in-law gave me this little fountain. We like to turn it on whenever we sit on our front porch rockers.
She’s the one I posted earlier with a gun. She really does smile in real life.
Some of us don’t work as hard as the others. In fact, if you add up the labor of the children and me, we wouldn’t even equal of fraction of my husband’s efforts. He’s a hard worker.
Well, back to work. I’ll do my best to come up with something edgy later.

Andrea, Our yard is a .3 acre lot, which is larger than my urban California mentors’ at Path to Freedom. We are talking about adding some raised beds in like fashion.
That’s cute that you remember her name, as I haven’t referred to her as Baby Energizer for a very long time. It is sad that she isn’t the baby anymore, but she still cuddles…

Who could forget that name!? She’s still got that darling baby face, though.

oh.my.goodness!
I just clicked on the link in your comment above (to your mentors’ website) - and, wow!
I’m a country girl who is now firmly planted in the city, thanks to my hubby’s job, and I have struggled with how to spread my roots amongst all the concrete & asphalt surrounding me.
Their page has given me inspiration - I haven’t read it all, but I’ve bookmarked it and will peruse their writings when I am able to… I’m not sure that I have the manpower to do all that they’ve accomplished (it’s just me for now, since hubby isn’t much of a gardener - until I can get him on the bandwagon) but I can sure do more than I have accomplished thus far.
Thanks for the link!!!
PS I also liked your pictures - the kids are adorable…

What a nice thing to say to encourage your hubby but are we talkin’ indoor work as well? I’d like to encourage you and say that all your kids and your house add up to a ton of service…here’s a pat for your back! :o)
Do rubber trees have latex in them? If you don’t leave your fountain running all the time, do you end up with mosquitos?

Hi Amy! I’ve been a long-time reader of your site but I’ve never commented before. I think your yard looks great! I used to live in Florida (my parents still do) and I can’t imagine doing all that in the summer heat! I love your rose bush climbing up the side of the house like that. Keep up the good work!

Danielle, Yes, rubber trees have latex. You do get mosquito larva – but you don’t have to run it all the time, just frequently enough and add a little bleach – kills the larva and keeps the fountain algae free.
Ashley, thanks for coming out of lurkdom.
Laura, It is inspiring, isn’t it? (Keep in mind that there are several adults living there and no children.)

Amy, that’s a charming smile on the Former Baby Energiser (henceforth perhaps to be known simply as Cuddles?)!
