Good news
Friday, Sep 1, 2006
We brought our daughter home from the hospital this evening. Her fever is gone, and she took a couple bites of yogurt tonight. Her white cell count is still out-of-range, but it is much lower. We are still waiting for more test results to understand what caused this.
Thank you for your prayers and notes. I’ve fielded calls all day long, but I’m not complaining. I’m glad to repeat the report all day long since that means that we have so many people who care about us. This is good. Thank you.

Oh, Amy. I missed the original post, but I am so glad to hear that she is home now. We will be praying for a speedy recovery for her. I hope that you will have a diagnosis soon. It is so scary to have a sick baby in the hospital, recovery always seems to go better at home.

Amy,
I have been checking on you the last couple of days. We had a similar situation a couple of years ago. It mimiced spinal meningitis but it was not. It was some mysterious bacterial infection in the back of dd’s neck. Stumped even the Vanderbildt doctors!
So glad she is home. That picture of her in the hospital bed was so sad.
Still praying for her strength to return and for the white blood cells to return to normal.

Saturday afternoon
She’s perked up today—eating, coloring, playing with her baby dolls. This is the best we’ve seen her so far; she seems fine! We are grateful for your notes and prayers. We will see the doctor next week for an office visit to discuss test results. I will let you know what we find out.

I am so glad to hear she’s doing better! I hope she continues upward on the mend, and that you find out what was wrong to avoid any repeat hospital trips.

Wow Amy, do you think it could have been a very nasty virus?
Glad she is well.
Praise God

My daughter, number three, had this kind of deal too. We never were able to get a definitive answer from Doctors. Praise God we haven’t had to go through this kind of illness in a long while. I am sure now that I mention it we will get some good virus bugs sent our way. Hang in there, and I am so glad to see she is home!!!
God Bless!!
Comment by KSMilkmaid (September 2, 2006 @ 9:56 pm )
Possibly a virus that caused a secondary infection, but probably not. When I was trying to get medicine in her mouth on Tuesday, she was crying so hard that she spit into my mouth.
I haven’t come down with anything, and none of the kids have even sneezed sideways. But we all take Juice Plus, so maybe it’s a miracle supplement after all.

I’d take spit over…. well, vomit. Cuz I do know what that’s like.

Dear Amy,
I’ve never commented here before, but had to mention that our son had Cat Scratch Fever, with very similar symptoms as your little girl. His illness lasted a month, until we finally found this out. It may be a remote possibility, but has your daughter been scratched by a cat recently? Cats can carry bacteria under their claws, and passes on an infection, which eventually reaches the lymph nodes. We thought we were going to lose our son, as they were telling us it was leukemia. We praise God it was very simple, although not very much fun. I hope you don’t mind me commenting - just thought it might help.
Comment by Mrs.Jillian (September 3, 2006 @ 3:48 pm )
Mrs. Jillian,
Thanks for the note. No, we don’t have a cat and haven’t been around any lately. I appreciate your letting me know of the possibility, as that would be something to look into if it were a factor.

Amy, I missed the original post but I’m SO glad that she’s doing better now. I hope you find out the reason for the illness soon and that it doesn’t happen ever again.
