Free book for someone

Are any of you homeschool moms tired already? I know, it’s only September. The new pack of Crayola isn’t even destroyed yet. In his book, Lies Homeschooling Moms Believe, author and father of seven Todd Wilson describes The Perky Homeschooler:
Todd gave me his book, Lies Homeschooling Moms Believe, to give to someone out there. It’s a pick-me-up, for sure. Leave a comment or drop me an email, and I’ll pick a random winner on Monday. To enter twice, link!

Our Crayola’s are already in pieces. Thanks for the encouragement!

You mean you buy new crayons every year? Ugh, what a bad mom I am. Actually we have the new “twistables”. They seem to be lasting a lot longer than the traditional crayons. Although, the black is broken.
Comment by Kelly Bowland (September 7, 2006 @ 4:24 pm )
Oh, I love that quote! I could definitely use the pick-me-up. Enter me, please!
Comment by Jeana (September 7, 2006 @ 4:28 pm )
Enter me please! I used to listen to other hs mothers and wonder what I was doing wrong because my days never went like theirs. Now, years later I have learned to ask how many, ages, and how long. Lesson learned: nothing worthwhile is ever easy.

I am just laughing at at “Amanda’s” comment, that’s how I feel. “Pick me, Pick me”! We’re at the beginning of our third homeschool year with 2 this year, not to mention trying to move in 2 weeks! YIKES.
Thanks Amy!

Oh how we love new Crayolas … lalalala. That’s why I picked up probably a dozen boxes at Walmart for 20 cents each in August. You can never have too many (unless you find them in the van or dryer
)
I would appreciate being entered into this drawing, please. The book sounds great. Thanks for the offer.
Comment by This Pastor's Wife (September 7, 2006 @ 5:36 pm )
Thanks, Amy. I’ll admit to needing a pick-me-up sometimes. And since I’m a Baptist teetotaller, a good book will have to do the job. Enter me.
Comment by Sherry (September 7, 2006 @ 5:37 pm )
I’m reformed Presbyterian and can’t wait til I can end every home-school day with a toast to another…
…but for now, sign me up for the book…still waiting for bambino #3 to arrive…
Comment by Alison (September 7, 2006 @ 6:01 pm )
Enter me! I linked two!!
Altough I am only homeschooling one compliant kindergartener all the others do not apply to me!
Comment by Beccy (September 7, 2006 @ 6:09 pm )
I linked two.
I am homeschooling a sometimes compliant kindergartner and a preschooler that doesn’t nap (and wants to do school) while my 16 month old breaks or sometimes eats the crayons!
Comment by Wendy (September 7, 2006 @ 6:21 pm )
Oh pick me! pick me!
Comment by Lindsey (September 7, 2006 @ 6:26 pm )
… the last line cracked me up!! Although I don’t know any homeschooling mom’s like that, I read a lot of blogs like that!!
Not yours, of course, because you are honest AND perfect!
right?
Thanks for your continual encouragement, and if I figure out how to link, put me in twice!

I am always interested in new books! May God’s Providence be praised in this non-chance drawing :-).
Romans 8:28: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Comment by Jesse (September 7, 2006 @ 7:25 pm )
I’ll link, TWO
Hmmm, if I were to link from the ChristianWomenOnline.net blog as well, could I get THREE chances?!
Unlike Kelly, my daughters enjoy pulling the crayons OUT of the twistables and *then* breaking them…
By the way, could someone define “compliant”?! I don’t think I am acquainted with any such children - not around here anyway. Ah well, Mama says these little apples didn’t fall far from the tree. Or maybe she said these nuts didn’t fall far from the tree… Hm. Wonder how she knows what my husband was like as a child, anyway?!?!
Want the book.
NEED the book.
In Christ alone,
Kari

Please enter me as well. This is our first year homeschooling. I LOVE it. And while I make my own bread I’m FAR from fitting in my wedding dress. Could be the homemade bread………….
Comment by Rebecca (September 7, 2006 @ 8:55 pm )
I would love to enter. I have my first senior this year and after homeschooling him, I need a pick me up! I need some laughter about now. Do you know the problem of homeschooling through high school, making children smarter than yourself. It will get you one day also!
Enter me PLEASE…
Comment by Cindi (September 7, 2006 @ 9:01 pm )
I’m glad to know I don’t *have* to bake my own bread, but when I have the time to do it, we all enjoy it sooo…. much! Please enter me! Thanks!
Comment by Susan (September 7, 2006 @ 9:16 pm )
Oh, that title sounds great!
Yes, I’m a little tired and this was only my first week! But now I’m working more with two…last year I was one of the perky moms excited over field trips…but that was because my oldest was in first grade and my youngest went to preschool two mornings a week and was only 3.
Anyway, what a great idea to give this away! (pick me, pick me!) *waving hands wildly*
Comment by Tammy (September 7, 2006 @ 9:41 pm )
enter me! I was tired this year before we started! Trying to work up some excitement…
Jenny in Ca (homeschool mom to 4- not a compliant kindergarnter in the bunch!)
Comment by Jenny (September 7, 2006 @ 10:17 pm )
I’d love to be in the drawing, though I am not sure if I qualify. I am home-preschooling my son who turns 4 this month. We plan to homeschool officially once DS and his 1 yr old sister are “of age.” I have been reading your blog for a few months at least & have been richly blessed by it–thanks!
Comment by April (September 7, 2006 @ 11:23 pm )
Oh yes, and my problem is that two weeks in to things, when my plan isn’t working out as perfectly as I hoped it would, I become so discouraged and think maybe this isn’t really working afterall…
I raise my hand in shame (shame that I indeed buy in to the lies!)
So enter me please and I can set the book on the stack of other books mocking me because I don’t have time to read them…
Comment by Megan (September 7, 2006 @ 11:24 pm )
Dh enjoys Todd’s weekly “You da Dad” e-mails. I must confess I read them too…hey, “You da Mom!” We could all use a little encouragement.
Angela (aka. the “I don’t do perky!” homeschool mom)
Comment by Angela (September 7, 2006 @ 11:43 pm )
I am a homeschooling mommy of four. I am also a lurking blogging mommy. I don’t post often enough or comment very often. Hmm I can think of four reasons why. Anyways I would like to be entered in your random drawing! I am not sure how to link. I think it means to leave a link to your site from mine…
hmmm to bad I can’t get an answer. I’ll have to remember to check back. Thank you for doing the drawing it is a very nice idea!

That sounds like just the thing I need right now. I’m having a bit of a rough time with one of my precious students. Maybe the book will give me some ideas, or at least help me see the lighter side of the situation. Oh, and enter me twice, please–I linked on my blog. Thanks!
Comment by Linda (September 8, 2006 @ 1:20 am )
*raises hand* I’d like to be entered! Not only will I give this to my mom to read, as she still has several more years of homeschooling my little sister, but I’ll read it and it may help in the future with possibly homeschooling my future children. My little sister plans to homeschool when she grows up, so she’ll probably read it as well. =D
I know it’s random, just thought I’d let you know that jsut because I’m 17 doesn’t mean that no one’s going to read the book. =P
Comment by Heidi (September 8, 2006 @ 2:57 am )
Oh, that sounds like a book I could use! Although I definitely don’t come under the Perky Homeschooler category! Looking at my wedding dress, I can’t believe how much I fretted over how “fat” I was. I do make bread however….but I use a mixer, I don’t hand knead, so I’m not a purist…
Comment by Lisa (September 8, 2006 @ 7:12 am )
I’d love that book, if you’re offering! I only have one little so far, but we’re headed to the mission field in just a few months, and I’ll definitely be homeschooling as that is our one option. I love what I’ve read from it so far - too funny!
And I love your blog, as always. I read it all the time, but I rarely comment (I know, I’m one of THOSE).

Any book recommendations for her? (lack of support, feeling like she wasn’t doing enough, overwhelmed…)
I have a R.C. Sproul book When you Rise Up that I was going to pass along as well.

Todd Wilson discusses those kinds of things in the book. Some of the “lies” he addresses: “Everyone else’s kids are better”, “Everyone else’s home is cleaner”, “Everyone else is more capable”, “Every other mom loves homeschooling”, “You’re the only one who is falling apart and feels the way you feel”, etc.
Ok.
That depends what blogging platform you use. You can grab the HTML from something else linked on your blog. It starts with “a href”.
My trackback spam settings are very cranky. I get hundreds of daily trackback spam, so unfortunately, hardly any of the good trackbacks and pings get through. I could manually sort through the spam searching for valid TB’s several times a day, but that’s not something I want to do.
But, don’t worry, you’re covered!

I take all of my broken crayons (which number in the bazillions) and melt them and pour them into molds and make what we like to call candy crayons….The kids LOVE them. I mean, do you know how engaging a T-Rex crayon can be to a 4 year old??
I am tired…..but committed.
I am tired as I look ahead, knowing it’s up to me to keep the enhusiasm level at a consistent level, but I am devoted.
I am especially tired after writing in ink on the BIG calendar how many activities we are into these next two months, but I am HERE. I am doing it.
I am not sitting home alone this year. I am TRYING to hook up with other HS moms (it’s tough when you’re new and PAINFULLY shy)….
Love the topic by the way…

As one who sends her children to government controlled schools as you homeschool people call them -I thought all homeschooled children were compliant!!!I get this because most of you come across as homescholling leads to almost perfect children and mine should be little monsters!!

I have 4, but only one very uncompliant 3rd-4th grader. That’s what makes me dread it. But, I’m making some changes, and praying and praying, so hopefully we’ll see some changes in her!
Thanks,

Loved your post. I think you should pick someone from Canada, eh? (-: (that would be ME!)
I have homeschooled my two boys since the very beginning of time, I mean the beginning of their school “career”. This is our 9th year. The Lord has seen us through scary illnesses with my kids, chronic illnesses with me, a busy work schedule, NO work schedule (ie. self-employed and no money) and we have carried on through it all.
Your blog is an encouragement to me. We are the only ones in our church and in my family who home school, so we’re odd balls. But all for the glory of God! God bless!
Comment by Mrs.Jillian (September 9, 2006 @ 1:10 pm )
Thanks for the note, Tammy. I assume this isn’t a request to be entered in the drawing?
Not all homeschoolers are of the Gestapo sort. Most of us are just trying the best we can to raise godly children in a secular culture. And some of us even have a sense of humor in the midst of it.
Comment by Amy Scott (September 9, 2006 @ 4:02 pm )
Amy,
I have this book, and it is great! We also have some of Todd’s other books, Help! I’m Married to a Homeschooling Mom and his two cartoon collections. My husband and I have lain in bed at night reading the cartoons and trying to muffle our uncontrollable bursts of laughter so we wouldn’t wake the children. I don’t need an entry, just thought I’d say that the winner is a blessed homeschooling mama…wait, aren’t we all?
Love the blog.

I don’t know if I offically qualify. I’ve got two preschool twins, a one year old, and another on the way. This means that next year, I will have four kids under three. Homeschooling seems completely insurmountable. I could use a little perspective and hope for the future!!
