A boy and his dog
Sunday, Oct 1, 2006
After all the anticipation and waiting, we brought Knox home last Friday. Our eight-year-old declared, “This is the best day of my life.”
The very first trick the dog performed was to run into the sliding glass door several times. The mistress of the house cannot be found for comment.

I suspect you will have a true “love/hate” relationship with this new doggie!

Oh, what a cute picture! I have similar ones from when we first got our pup, when my kids were constantly on the floor with him. Now, believe it or not, it’s often ME lying on the floor with my best buddy. Hope he grows on you like mine did!

A beautiful dog and a beautiful boy! What could make a better picture than that? Nothing at all! That puppy will have the glass doors figured out in no time… and have you wrapped around his little paw, I predict. Keep us updated!

I love it! I PROMISE you, you’ll have TONS of similar stories! Boxers have so much personality.
This weekend we had a bonfire, complete with smores. Whlie we and our compnay were enjoying the warm fire, I turned to look and our boxer (9 months old) had jumped up ON the picnic table to help herself to her own smore! It was one of those funny, but not funny things.
Enjoy!

Awwww…. so cute they are. I bet they’ll be the best friends, with that good start!

HA! I can just imagine the poor little beggar careening into the door! Well, you know, he’ll learn fast. He’ll have to, if he doesn’t want to go around perpetually dizzy!
I bet you’ll get so attached to this creature, Amy, despite yourself!

Despite how much I would like, no LOVE, to get rid of our dog, she has become part of everyday life around here and it would be very odd if she weren’t here and, yes, I even think I’d miss her! She’s been in our home since she was an 8 week old puppy. She’s four now and a naughty little thing sometimes! She has a “thing” for paper products -ANYTHING with paper. From cardboard to papertowels, she is at her happiest tearing and ripping away at the stuff. I hope your pooch doesn’t get a taste for anything expensive, like leather! I’m thinking shoes, bibles….
Cute pic!

You do realize that no matter who pets, loves, walks, talks, and plays with the dog that it will, in fact, become YOUR DOG, right?
Just … y’know, in case this hasn’t been made clear by previous posters and emailers.
I have 3 dogs. They each should belong to someone else - and yet, they don’t. They are all 3 my babies.

Learn how to make the best of it, or be the big ugly person in the house all the time. We now have 2 dogs in and out of the house. I was overruled. =)

Such a short post, but these few words brought tears to my eyes. How wonderful that the Lord uses animals to bless families. God is so sweet, isn’t He?
Such wonderful gifts from Him in such cute packages.
His,

Our youngest daughter, 11 years old, had to answer an AWANA question recently about the best gift she had ever received. Her response was next to Jesus, my puppy, Tori. We brought her home the end of June. I have some pictures of Tori posted on my Xanga site.
I mentioned in a previous post that our daughters obedience train their dogs and compete in the UKC. What a wonderful experience they have had. Believe it or not they are the caregivers for their dogs doing all the feeding, clean up, and training. They have such a great time with them, only they have to settle for snuggling with them outside, since they are not allowed in the house. (The dogs.)
The girls have learned so much that transfers over to their academics as well. My oldest daughter came to me last week with a huge grin and asked, “Guess what I am learning about in Anatomy this module? Bones, and they are the same as in the dog except for about five of them.” Since she already knows all the bones of the dog, the memory work was a breeze for her.
If your pup has not yet learned to avoid the glass door yet, you could try some removable stick-ons to give him the idea that something is there. Blessings and enjoy the pup!!

W-a-y cute picture.
And how hilarious would that have been to watch the dog keep hitting the glass?! LOLOL I know, I have an evil streak in me somewhere…

Can I ask, why a boxer?

Boxers are loyal, great with kids, smart and trainable, and …can be trained to bite the heads off of intruders. Oh, and they don’t shed.
GardenOfGrace, we are planning to obedience train him. I don’t know if we’ll try to do it competitively or anything; we’ll see how it goes. At the very least, he needs to earn his dog food. He seems eager to please already, and I take this as a good sign. However, I did burst into simutaneous tears and laughter when he repeatedly walked into the very smudged glass. I wailed, “HE’S STUUUPPPIDDD!” But I’ve taken it back after he obeys me better than anyone else so far.

Now that looks like absolute contentment!

We have a very scary boxer next door. I think he would like to eat us up. Once he got out of his fence and chased me until I climbed on top of my car. He lunges at whomever is trying to mow. Even our lawn service guy is scared of him. He used to bark and bark whenever we were out in the back yard. Once we were trying to eat grilled chicken on the deck, and I asked his owner if I could give him some chicken and try to make friends so he would stop barking at us. The owner smiled and said, “Sure!” So I gave the dog some chicken. Then I reached over the fence to pet him, and he bit my hand.
However, I know other boxers that are very nice dogs. And the few other people I know who have boxers are just nuts about their dogs. So I hope your dog turns out to be great with the kids, and I bet he’ll be a really good watchdog, too. Me, I have a shih-tzu maltese. He doesn’t shed, but he is no watchdog. The only thing he’s good for is keeping you warm in the winter, so he would be worthless in Florida. Well, I guess he does eat the scraps off the floor. That is the single biggest perk of having a dog when your kids are little. Enjoy!
