I’m trying to get Greg to move over to my blog now. He protests by saying that this is a Chick Blog. This is completely untrue. Tons of guys read here, and they’re secure enough in their manhood to have me on their blogrolls to prove it. Greg thinks it’s all in the name of diversity. You know, the token girl on the blogroll among 42 guy theology blogs. The only thing that’d help with the diversity is if I wasn’t white and Christian, but I totally didn’t say that aloud. You can be sued for these sorts of things nowadays.
The lame blog title is a problem, I concede. “Amy’s Humble Musings…and Greg”? The patriarchalists would stage an internet protest for sure. Drop the Amy and just go with “Humble Musings”? Not on your life. I’m at the top of a lot of blogrolls because my mother didn’t have the creativity to name me Zephrina. The only thing that’d be better than “Amy” is “Aardvark.”
Plus, nobody updates their blogrolls anymore. That’s so 2005.
I have a feeling he’ll see the light when Blogger crashes on him in the middle of posting. Suddenly, a Chick Blog won’t look so bad. He says I’d have to ditch the laundry header though. Not a problem for a good submissive wife.

Who’s seeing the light now, eh? So far you’re crashing about every month…
Comment by Greg (December 2, 2006 @ 1:34 pm )
I totally knew I’d regret saying that.

1. OK. Well. Maybe not tons of guys…but I’m sure there are a few.

2. My husband is a closet reader and I am sure there are lots more out there!! I think it’s an idea worth trying for a while to see how it goes. I’ve been checking out Greg’s blog since you have mentioned it and I enjoy reading from his perspective.

3. If I were Greg, I’d snatch that opportunity up in a minute! I mean, who wouldn’t want to write, when a readership already exists … one that has been built reader by reader by diligent effort already expended.
Isn’t that one of the blessings promised to the people of God: (Deu 6:10-11 NKJV) “So it shall be, when the LORD your God brings you into the land of which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build, {11} “houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant; blog readers whom you did not earn; when you have eaten and are full;
I mean, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

4. Yes, yes, yes! I can persuade him to do anything when I use BIBLE VERSES!

5. Male reader here.
I think I read your blog more than my wife does (though that may be due to the fact that she is at home tending to our proverbial progeny while I’m at the proverbial office trying to avoid doing the proverbial work).
Because I’m guessing that your readers talk to their spouses more than the average blog reader, you could expect wives to tell their husbands that it is “now safe” to read your testosterone injected blog if you were to add Greg as a contributor.
Translation: Go for it Greg!

7. HOw about “Amy and Greg Humbly Musing Together” I think it would be COOL to share a blog with hubby.

8. Long time male lurker here. BTW, a ton of male readers would only be about 10 to 15 depending combined mass of the population in question. I think that you should easily have “tons” of male readers.

9. Ummm, how far have you ever gotten with me by proof-texting?
Comment by Greg (November 30, 2006 @ 3:09 pm )
10. Greg, dear, while I have you on the line here, how about giving me a call? I opened the Amazon box, and now the kids want to watch Sound of Music but I’m not sure if you got that for Christmas. (Sorry.) Should we feign ignorance?
Looks like I know another way to get your attention. I won’t mention the other ways here.
Egads. Looks like me and Jeff need to get back to work here.

11. Ask him, if you ditch the laundry head, can you ditch the laundry too?
Comment by Jeana (November 30, 2006 @ 3:32 pm )
12. Yes, dear, that was for Christmas. Now I’m going to have to get you that new bag of clothespins I saw in the dollar store instead.
HOw about “Amy and Greg Humbly Musing Together”
- Nice try Stacey, but you see what you get when we do that. It ain’t pretty.
Ask him, if you ditch the laundry head, can you ditch the laundry too?
Jeana, OK, now you guys are meddling. (But that was very funny)

JFC - Listen, I don’t even rate a link as weblog of the week on her site not to mention the fact that she doesn’t even have me in her blogroll.
Comment by Greg (November 30, 2006 @ 4:05 pm )
14. Amy, I’ve only been reading your blog for the last few months and I love what you write! I also think that sharing a blog with your husband is a great idea. And if he wrote here, I’m sure more guys would read it too.

15. – Amusing Humbleness (I know, it’s humility, just go with me)
– A Couple Muses
– Aardvarks for Greg and Amy
– Amassing Humility Together
– Amy’s Muse
– AmyGreg
– Adventures with Greg and Amy
And yes, since you were wondering, my husband is out of town for four days and I do have too much time on my hands tonight (my laundry, thank you very much, is done). : )
Comment by Heather (November 30, 2006 @ 10:04 pm )
16. Amy,
I always refer to you as “Amy of Humble Musing fame.” I know it doesn’t help the alphabetical thing, but we could easily say “Greg of Humble Musing ‘fame’” too!
To God be all glory,
Lisa, Lady of Longbourn

17. Well, I can dig it. Greg’s cool. Although I do kinda like the name of his blog better. How about…Amy & Greg: What shall we say-together…?
Comment by Debbie (November 30, 2006 @ 11:33 pm )
18. I feel a contest coming on…that is if Greg will cooperate!!
I think Cindy calls you Amy the Humble and I always love that but I really like Heather’s Adventures with Greg and Amy.
C’mon Greg.
Comment by Janet (November 30, 2006 @ 11:55 pm )
19. I like the simple and sweet “Humble Musings” if Greg were to join, because it would keep the title of the blog relatively unchanged while still making it less girly. =D
Comment by Heidi (December 1, 2006 @ 5:56 am )
20. Yes, Amy ~
I’m so glad you brought this up, I was thinking the same thing this week.
I think you should seriously consider going with simply “Humble Musings.”
Two Reasons:
It’s your actual domain name, making it easier for people to remember and find even without a link. You would probably have an even better chance of getting returning visits from “strays” who found your blog through “somebody’s site,” but later can’t recall how to get back. They just type in the easy-to-remember blog name and they’re back! Bringing in new readers as they can easily bring up your blog on whatever computer they may be near when they find themselves chatting about you with their friends . . . and so on.
Secondly, I think your writing is solid enough that you can survive NOT being at the top of others’ blogrolls. Additionally, if others wish to, they can still keep you at the top, or stick you down lower, no matter what letter your blog name starts with. Wouldn’t you rather find your blog listed at the top of someone’s blogroll (or still popular even though you are now listed in the middle) on the merit of your (and your husband’s) biblical & Christ-honoring writing and NOT because it arbitrarily begins with the first letter of the alphabet?
Let us not forget that we are discussing the “Humble Musings” blog. I think you can handle it, after all . . . “If any man desire to be first, . . .”
(Besides, you want to make things as easy as possible on me, don’t you? I have a couple considerations I want to discuss with you privately, in reference to this.)

21. I think Cindy calls you Amy the Humble and I always love that but I really like Heather’s Adventures with Greg and Amy.
Heather’s Adventures with Greg and Amy?! That’s terrible! The worst suggestion ever.
Valerie (anonymous), Excellent point on the domain and something that has irritated me for a long time. I didn’t put “Amy’s” in the domain because I thought the apostrophe is confusing. You have to leave out the ‘ when typing in the address, and that’s just so….wrong.
Comment by Amy Scott (December 1, 2006 @ 10:52 am )
22. Oh, and second. I think I’d need a case study wherein a very cool manly guy had the word “musings” in his blog title. So passe’. Musings=suburban housewife whose ironing is unfinished.
When I picked “Amy’s Humble Musings”, it was just a place holder. I totally didn’t think anyone –other than the three people I intended it for– would read this. [I just deleted all my commentary about “why.”] Here we are, two years later, and I’m so stuck with it.
Anyway, yes, we’ll be needing a guy blog with the word “musing” before Greg will consider. Greg is dragging his feet, so any suggestions are pure speculation….and probably a complete waste of time.

23. I didn’t put “Amy’s” in the domain because I thought the apostrophe is confusing.
God’s Providence.
Anyway, yes, we’ll be needing a guy blog with the word “musing” before Greg will consider.
Now, see, I find that interesting, since the word for “musing” - at least according to the Free Online Dictionary - sports a very honorable definition:
adj.
Deep in thought; contemplative.
n.
1. Contemplation; meditation.
2. A product of contemplation; a thought. “an elegant tapestry of quotations, musings, aphorisms, and autobiographical reflections” James Atlas.
What manly, well-bred, well-educated, godly man would have a problem writing under such a title?
Comment by Valerie (December 1, 2006 @ 11:22 am )
24. Ugh. I meant Heather’s idea. “Adventures with Greg and Amy”. Do you know Heather?
Comment by Janet (December 1, 2006 @ 11:57 am )
25. Don’t ditch the laundry header. Just photoshop in jumper cables instead of clothespins.
I like “Adventures with Greg and Amy”.
Comment by Milehimama (December 1, 2006 @ 12:20 pm )
26. I’m in favor of ditching the clothespins in the header and replacing them with duct-tape.
OT: How’s that work-from-home gig going?
Comment by Jo (December 1, 2006 @ 1:17 pm )
27. This is Heather! I think this is turning into a great reason to head to Florida (TODAY, since the weather has taken the winter plunge and the wind chill is somewhere around zero here in Ohio) and cook up some adventure with The Scott Family. And then I’ll just start my own blog with the name Heather’s Adventures with Greg and Amy. Actually, we can’t leave out my dh, so it will have to be Eric and Heather’s Adventures with Greg and Amy and Our 10 Children.
