Site maintenance

Greg’s tweaking the site a little today. We changed the background color for the benefit of IE7 users. Let me know if it’s more readable. IE7 readers have been demanding refunds daily. You’ll still have to use a real browser (ahem) to view this site correctly, but I hope the color change makes it manageable if you don’t switch browsers.
RSS readers, why don’t you click on over and tell me how you like the new digs (that you’ll never appreciate in your feed reader)?
We took the new header picture this morning. The neighbors oohed and ahhed over the cuteness of our setup, and I smiled and waved hypocritically as if this was really fun. Through gritted teeth, I’d whisper: LOOK. AT. ME. AND. BE. HAPPY. (please?) Greg lay in the wet grass with the camera. I periodically dropped the baby and ran toward the camera to jump up and down before anyone moved. Snap. 74 pictures later and we have one without tears and without half my leg in the shot. So this is us. Sort of.

I like it a lot! I’m a Firefox user, though, so I’ve never had any problems. You’re kids look great in the photo, too!

Very cute! It’s nice to see your laundry filled with people!
The clothesLINE is gone though–does that mean we might be seeing some of the hubs’ writing over here now?

I love the picture…and I love your honesty. *Chuckles* I always imagine myself to be the only one who has to work really hard to get the kiddos looking delighted for a shot. Aren’t they ’sposed to naturally be all smiles? Ah, well.

Wow! 74 times! Well, it sure turned out great. I love it as the header, too.

Wow! 74? My sister could never get her 4 boys to look that cute all at the same time in even that many shots I don’t think. After three she said no more of them together EVER! It was a nightmare. I only have two (right now) and so it’s not so bad, especially since one is 14 and she can just keep frozen until the 2 year old looks just right!
It is a great picture!

Gorgeous children! The header is well worth the trouble (well, easy for me to say!).

LOL! How I can relate to your gritted-teeth behind a happy smile!

Beautiful!

I love it!!!!
I can so relate to the 74 pictures. I have been working on our church pictorial directory….picture this (pun intended)… 20 families and the average family has over 6 kids!!! I have been working on this since JUNE!
I love the picture! It’s REAL.

Beautiful picture!!! And, I’m insanely jealous because your grass is green and your children are barefoot and wearing short sleeves… in December!! Ahh, to live where it is always summer (or at least spring like)! I’m a warm weather gal!!
Comment by Lady Why (December 14, 2006 @ 9:17 am )
I LOVE the new look!! And that picture is great, even if it did take 74 times to get there.
Good job! (And I use Firefox too
so no problems for me! Hehe)

It’s a great picture, Amy. Your kids are precious!

I love the picture and site changes… Yes, reality is more like 74 times. Thanks for keepin’ it real

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who has problems getting the perfect family shot. Last Christmas I vowed was the last time we’d try. 6 kids. 2 days of trying. Finally bribing with candy… one great shot. This year we have 7 kids and everyone waiting for their Christmas photo. The only pic they are getting is of the 3 wise men on the preboxed Christmas cards from Zellers. Maybe when there is no pressure we’ll try again. Merry Christmas!!

No, I think he’s maintaining that this is a chick blog.
Actually we took the pic for the fam, who are carrying around kid pics of when we only had 4.
It’s in the high 70’s here and I’m harvesting tomatoes. I’m normally not the nanny-nanny-boo-boo type, but yes, we love the winter weather.
Comment by Amy Scott (December 14, 2006 @ 10:16 am )
Great picture! I am the oldest of six and can definitely relate to this. How many otherwise perfect family pictures have been ruined by a small child picking their nose, or by saluting for unknown reasons just before the shutter clicked?
Thanks for the website changes… I’m using IE 7. Looks good.
Comment by Natalie (December 14, 2006 @ 10:28 am )
Looks great and what a great picture! I know how hard it can be to get a picture of everyone looking with their eyes open.
Comment by Wendy (December 14, 2006 @ 10:41 am )
Amy,
Love your blog! The new and improved header is wonderful…it reminds me of a more temperate version of my own brood/header; come see!
Comment by foolarch (December 14, 2006 @ 11:18 am )
Yup, I knew there was no way that was an easy snapshot.
Nice look. I especially like the girl in the middle. But she’s missing her shotgun.
I guess for the sake of the neighbors, it’s better to remove all weaponry.
Comment by Lora Lynn (December 14, 2006 @ 11:22 am )
Actually, it’s the blondie that keeps me on my toes. My middle one is the gentle lamb. The look on her face is her typical Eeyore expression. It’s good that she was third and not first or second. Otherwise, I would’ve been inclined to congratulate myself on my superior parenting skills. And then we’d have Amy’s Arrogant Musings, and that just doesn’t sound as good.

“I smiled and waved hypocritically as if this was really fun. Through gritted teeth, I’d whisper: LOOK. AT. ME. AND. BE. HAPPY. ”
I can relate.
I have warned my children twice, last night and this morning, that we WILL be taking the Christmas photo tonight and we cannot have a repeat of last year. Oh, it was awful. Pray for me tonight if you remember.
I squealed with delight when I saw your header. Your children are precious. Will that double as the Christmas photo?
Comment by Janet (December 14, 2006 @ 12:12 pm )
We did the exact same pose this past weekend for our Christmas card! We tried so many different poses, but baby Giovanni just wouldn’t cooperate. He kept sitting down, or crawling away, or pulling someone’s hair. Finally (it took us way too long to figure this out) we decided, “If we can’t beat him - join him.” So 7 children got on their tummies. Eureka! We only had to do a dozen or so, and then we finally got a useable one. Ugh… good thing we only do this once a year!
Comment by Laura in KY (December 14, 2006 @ 1:10 pm )
It’s actually the Christmas photo doubling as the blog header. I’d like to think that I would spend that much time and effort on my blog, but as you can see clearly by the quality of the content, I don’t.

This post was very funny! You’re transparency about the imperfect moments in life is refreshing - it helps me know I’m not the only one who feels this way at times.
Comment by Sarah (December 14, 2006 @ 2:13 pm )
Amy, you are beyond funny, as usual. And I love the picture of your wee tribe. I can’t get over how _different_ all your kids look from one another–you managed to get variety on top of everything else!
Comment by Mrs. P. (December 14, 2006 @ 2:18 pm )
I absolutely LOVE the new header picture!

What a delightful surprise to hop over here and see those dear-to-you faces!
Our family photo-taking is scheduled for tonight! I’m hoping for a good photo in less than 74 shots, though. Like maybe 71.
Blessings,
Stacy

We have started a new “be real with each other” wave in our HS group. This is a fabulous perfect example!
I’ve never read a HS blog until just a few minutes ago - and I’m afraid I’m now hooked.

I’m on IE - the homeschool blogger icon is still in the middle of the the first post.

Very funny because it is true. Yet not because it takes alot of work to get a decent picture and it always makes me wonder if it is truly worth it and if I am being too much of an over-achiever :0 I did not count how many pics we took in October for our family photo because we deleted some in the process. But before we had our digital camera, we would take at least a whole roll of film. Welcome to the world of large families or just plain parenting! (wink!) We are making memories in the process, right?

What a nice surprise, Amy! That’s such a cute photo! Kudos to you on the site revamp.

The new look is great, and I love the picture of your kids. How adorable! They look like they all have very different personalities, and I’m sitting here looking at them and wondering what they’re like in real life.
Comment by Emily (December 15, 2006 @ 3:42 pm )
I adore the picture. And the whole blog looks better to me (I’m using IE6, still, because IE7 was being cranky).
