Read the directions
Monday, Nov 12, 2007
From the desktop this morning comes another gem from my seven-year-old. I can think of a lot of places I could go with this one. When in doubt (and not), always read the instructions, eh?

(More baby journal stuff later…)

That’s pretty funny

Woo-hoo! first commenter!! bam!!!
that made me laugh–thanks for the smile today!
Comment by Elizabeth (November 12, 2007 @ 2:50 pm )
Thank you for the smile. It reminds me of a littl diddy my brother wrote some 27 years ago in his first grade class about swiss cheese. I still remember it.
I hate swiss cheese. It has holes. I would never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever eat swiss cheese. I would die if I had to eat swiss cheese.

A gem indeed - so cute. Thanks, Amy - we are praying for you.

Amy, you’re a delight yourself, and have obviously produced delightful offspring. Thank the Creator . . . you know it’s always _such_ a disappointment when one’s sparkling acquaintances turn out to have those dull kids . . . .
Hang in there, hon.

That is priceless! Love it!

Hi, Amy,
You probably really don’t want to hear about my first two were born on their due dates and my sixth and seventh were 10 and 21 days overdue, do you?
Think of me as the woman who sits at the baby shower and tells horror stories of labour and delivery.
(seriously, this was meant to make you laugh, but if it didn’t, maybe being really disgusted with me will take your mind off other things?)
Comment by DeputyHeadmistress (November 12, 2007 @ 3:19 pm )
That is a classic, truly. That’s a great kid.
Hang in there…

Cute, cute, cute!
Here’s hoping there’s a new baby Scott soon!
Comment by Amy (November 12, 2007 @ 4:22 pm )
Cute–but what are all those lines for if you’re only supposed to write ONE sentence? That would have to be some sentence to fill them all up!
Comment by Melissa (November 12, 2007 @ 4:24 pm )
That’s true, Melissa. My 9-year-old has trouble with answering a question with a SUPER SHORT line for the answer. Maybe we should have a no-line society… HA, kidding!
God bless, Amy!
Comment by Sheila (November 12, 2007 @ 5:28 pm )
Um, my reaction is that there are all those lines! Why put all those lines if you only want one sentence?
Comment by Sarah (November 12, 2007 @ 5:57 pm )
LOL! That is adorable!
And, beyond that, I am impressed, I can barely get my 7 year old to write one word!
Comment by Kerrie (November 12, 2007 @ 6:10 pm )
I agree with Melissa and Sarah. Too many lines. How confusing.
What child in their right mind starts an assignment and then re-reads the instructions?
Your 7-year old was inspired.
To God be all glory,
Lisa of Longbourn

Totally precious! I love it! What curriculum do you prefer to use for eng/writing at that age?
Praying that the baby comes NOW!
Comment by Nancy P. (November 12, 2007 @ 6:57 pm )
Ha, he writes like my daughter talks …
Too funny!!

LOL!

What is it with 7 year olds and not reading the directions? I am constantly correcting my 7yo’s work and finding that he obviously breezed past the directions in his pursuit of being the 1st one done with schoolwork. But, because it wasn’t my 7yo, I cracked up laughing. Maybe I’ll try that approach with my own tomorrow. I am sure he will appreciate it…..

For most teachers, it’s like pulling teeth to get more than one sentence from a student. Good to see your child is not hesitant to write.
Comment by Amy T. (November 12, 2007 @ 10:21 pm )
Adorable!
Comment by Margaret (November 12, 2007 @ 10:22 pm )
Do I sense a future writer/blogger in that child?
Comment by debby (November 12, 2007 @ 11:41 pm )
PS I’ll pray for baby mercies…
Comment by debby (November 12, 2007 @ 11:42 pm )
Love it, Amy. A humorous writer like her mama.
…just for a laugh, and to pass the time, with my last baby I was so firm that he wouldn’t be born on Halloween. Well, he was a week late, and by that time I really didn’t *care*. He was born on Halloween.

All that to say…you *will* get a baby!!
Comment by Andrea (November 13, 2007 @ 12:24 am )
I am also impressed with your 7yo’s writing ability.
Not that this is helpful, but I am feelin’ the pain of the late baby : ( ALL of my five were late–4 were six days and one was 13. We now expect to be 6 days over and just add that to our due date–but 13 was a bit much!! I am sure it is more frustrating when you are used to ‘beating’ the due date. I am very thankful God is in control of these things–but sometimes you just need to get out a “Come on already!!”
Praying for a wonderful delivery for you (and soon!)
Wendy

I can’t believe I caught you before your baby came, but congratulations. I just came across your site (looking for instructions on blind hemstitch) and can’t believe how much we have in common. I just gave birth to my fourth baby and working on the draperies of my house which was put off for the past 5 years due to childcare duties. I’m still looking for instructions on blind hemstitching on a serger.

That is SO adorable! I love how she (he?) spelled instructions…too precious! I hope you have a healthy new babe in your arms, soon!
Comment by Denise (November 13, 2007 @ 1:05 am )
Oh but it is so much better for her not reading the “instrukshins”! What a joy to read. It made me smile - thank you!!
Comment by Philippa (November 13, 2007 @ 6:49 am )
two things….
1st, I love how you ended your sentence speaking Canadian for we Northern readers
2nd, I’m hoping that this wasn’t actually posted by you but by some ghostposter because you are really in labour and now seconds away from holding little (insert name here).
Comment by Barbara (November 13, 2007 @ 8:08 am )
I AM STILL HERE.
There. Got that over with.
Just MCP phonics workbooks, lots of reading and journal writing.
I am a big girl (uh, very big), and I can take it. I know what I’m in for. I am too miserable to be afraid.
Comment by Amy Scott (November 13, 2007 @ 12:17 pm )
Oh NO. Poor Amy.
Hey, are you desperate? Why not hook yourself up to a breast pump?
I finally did that last time around, and I did go into labor….
Comment by colicmommy (November 13, 2007 @ 12:31 pm )
Maybe this will get censored out…or maybe it will make Amy laugh….but I am so glad colicmommy just added that 3rd sentence. When I read the first two sentences I thought it was one of those nasty spam emails I get and delete rather rapidly….

Unfortunately, I am THE QUEEN OF INDUCTION METHODS.
I started looking into this beginning around Baby #4. You should see my Google history. Anyway, the problem is that I’m HAVING continuous contractions already. Every attempt at getting things going more has just made things worse without affecting/effecting (?) any progress. And I am exhausted…
Comment by Amy Scott (November 13, 2007 @ 12:53 pm )
Poor Amy! I so wish I could wrap you in a big hug! It will be over soon! You’ll make it!
Comment by Another Heather (November 13, 2007 @ 3:12 pm )
Oh, Amy! I am so sorry to hear you’re still here… and I mean that in the nicest way, of course!
I’m praying for your labor to finally get underway and that baby to make a quick and painless entrance into the world!
Nobody has ever accused me of being a ‘glass half empty’ girl!!
Comment by Lady Why (November 13, 2007 @ 3:15 pm )
Oh, Amy…bleh. I’m sorry.
(And Barbara…ha ha ha…I didn’t even think of my comment like that!)
Comment by colicmommy (November 13, 2007 @ 3:16 pm )
Amy, I have a theory about “too miserable to be afraid…”
I think God purposely created the ninth month of pregnancy to be beyond uncomfortable so that you’d welcome labor with wide open sausage arms.
Your baby is simply waiting for her birthday.
