Baby journal: Birthday
Wednesday, Nov 14, 2007
10:46 PM EST OK, I’m back home and Amy is hopefully sleeping. I know I forgot to include the baby’s name in the last post, below, so I figured I’d make up for it by providing the birth story so Amy won’t have to later.
We left for the hospital at 6:15 AM, which is really too early if you ask me. Anyway, we got there about 7AM, waited for about 30 minutes for them to get us checked in, and something like 10 hours later we had a baby.
What were you expecting, gold earrings?
5:12 PM EST FINALLY!! 8lbs. 13oz with a 14″ head! (Amy wanted me to make sure I mentioned that stat). Amy and the baby are doing fine. I’ll upload a picture as soon as I can get her to stop eating. Like mother, like daughter!
Oh, and her name is…
3:30 PM EST We’re excited for the baby to arrive too - if only so the kids will stop calling every 5 minutes - “Is the baby here yet?” Obviously, we’re still in labor.
12:15 PM EST How many different ways can you answer the question, “So, is this your first?” I’ve got to come up with something better because when I tell them it’s our sixth, they just say, “Oh” and kinda slink away like they might catch something.
9:35 a.m. EST Strapped in and hooked up. Not what we planned, but here we are. Amy survived the I.V. stick (which was a double stick). Volunteer who took us up to Labor and Delivery said, “Wow, you look good for your sixth!” Not sure how to take that…
6:04 a.m. EST Leaving for the hospital. Greg and I think it’s weird that it’s the first time we’re not in a rush.

Yay! Can’t wait! Been the induction route..once…it’s a roller coaster ride, but over quickly.

Quick.
That’s an important word to a woman at this point in pregnancy.
Amen?
I’ll be watching for the big announcement! Hey…if the baby comes today, it’s a grand day to be born…
It happens to be my birthday today, too.
Double nickels.

I should have started the I.V.
The comment was a complement!!!! Take it and say “thank you”. Alot of women having multiple children are very FAT - okay, overweight. Once again -you look good.
Be nice to those nurses. They are your friends.
I’ll keep checking in.
Love ya.
Comment by Tracey (November 14, 2007 @ 12:38 pm )
Praying it all goes well. Our 3rd was an induction, it is indeed an odd feeling to head out on a schedule to have a baby! It almost felt like cheating, lol.

Re:- update 12.15 EST…
That is funny you say that. We are getting the same kind of vague “Ohh rrriiight” when we say this is our fourth!
Hope she is doing ok! Constantly checking and praying.
Comment by Naomi (November 14, 2007 @ 1:22 pm )
I am praying for you and your precious wee lil’ one. Thank you for the updates!
Comment by Mary Beth (November 14, 2007 @ 1:39 pm )
Well, the slinking away and saying nothing is less annoying than the “Gasp! Oh, my…are you CRAZY?” and on and on that you hear once you are past the half dozen. Welcome to MY world, Amy.
Praying too, like all the other posters,
Janet
Comment by Janet (November 14, 2007 @ 1:49 pm )
Yeah, I love the follow up question “how old are they?” I started rounding up because I was afraid a few of those nurses might pass out when they heard 5, 3, and 1. And I was only on my fourth!
Still praying - loving the updates:)

Comment by martha (November 14, 2007 @ 2:47 pm )
Is this your first?
Yes, it’s our first one this year.
Yes, it’s the first time we’ve had 6 kids.
I just tell people it’s my first girl. They can fake being happy for me as they slink away shaking their head.
Comment by Jo (November 14, 2007 @ 2:47 pm )
Yes, our first induction!
Yes, our first half-dozen!
Yes, our first to be heir to Valerie’s estate if named after her!
Comment by Valerie (Kyriosity) (November 14, 2007 @ 3:02 pm )
Re: update 12.15 EST…
Yes, it’s our first time leaving 5 kids home for a baby to be born. Or yes, it’s the first time we’re going to use a name that our blog stalkers suggested. Or no, we actually didn’t wait until we were in our 30s to start having babies like most Americans.
People will always have some stupid question to ask. For me, since we only have 1 so far and I stay at home with her, it’s usually, “What do you do with all of your free time?” I usually tell them I drink and smoke cigars, or sit around and eat bon-bons, of course!
I would love to “catch” the 6-baby blessing! Don’t pay those people any mind, Amy, they unfortunately can’t know what they’re missing. Praying for you of course, and so excited to hear more birthday news!
And Greg, if you happen to check comments before transition, please remember to promise Amy that it’s almost over. And tell her that every few seconds or so.
Comment by Lisa (November 14, 2007 @ 3:08 pm )
Ah, they just don’t get it. I STILL get asked if this is my first baby - then they fall over gasping for breath when I reply that it is my 8th.
I WILL say that with our last baby, the two student nurses were true blessings. One was the mother of six children, and the other was from a family of 8 children.
I am praying for you, Amy. You’ve been on my heart so much this morning.
Comment by Holly (November 14, 2007 @ 3:16 pm )
Praying for you and your precious new bundle! I am waiting and wondering when mine will arrive! I read many of the books you suggested in regards to preparing my heart/head for birth…my due date is Sat. and my practice won’t let me go a week past b/c of my prior c-section. I have this feeling I am going to have to be induced…
Because my last was two weeks early (to the day) I really didn’t think I’d still be pregnant. Funny how the Lord reminds us, daily, that He is the one who holds time in His hands!
Comment by Kim Mislock (November 14, 2007 @ 3:47 pm )
“Is this your first?”
“My first what?”

I have been “secretly” reading your blog for awhile. I have 3 little ones under 3 1/2 (no twins) and one more on the way. Your blog on 3 under 3 was such an encouragement. Praying for you and can’t wait to hear the good news.

Go Amy! Hoohooo Heeheee..puuushh puuuushh..(anybody seen that Bill Cosby episode??):biggrin_wp
On a serious note..are you/did you get an epidural?? I don’t think I’d be on here updating if I didn’t have some sort of pain relief along with pitocin.
I’m due in four weeks..we’re shooing for 3 weeks..she’ll probably come in two.
Can’t wait to hear the news!! Praying everything is going well.
~andee
Comment by Andrea (November 14, 2007 @ 4:59 pm )
I have always felt that the IV was the worst part of any hospitalization–5 C sections included! That also includes bad sticks for epidurals. It’s all downhill from the IV. Baby Scott will be here soon. Praise the Lord!
Comment by Another Heather (November 14, 2007 @ 5:01 pm )
MY keyboard is shot..really I do know how to spell “shooting”..
..as in “shooting for 3 weeks”…I’m not “shooing” 3 weeks away or anything silly like that. Maybe my brain is shot..I, too, am having my sixth.

Now, Amy and Greg, really. How do you expect me to sleep without knowing the name of this little sweetheart? You’re killing me here… Tracey- it is imperitive for the peace and joy of the family that I get a good night’s sleep. You could just e-mail me very quietly and let me know the name from the church’s e-mail, couldn’t you?!
Comment by Petersonclan (November 14, 2007 @ 11:41 pm )
Yeah,…we want to see that pic you promised. I’m not surprised at the cruelty fo this name withholding though. Coming from a guy who wrapped up gold earrings in a bunch of boxes to make Amy think she was getting a ring!
So happy for you holding that precious bundle of love now, Amy. I can’t wait for the birth story either.
Congrats on another beautiful girl!

Alright, that does it. Someone get me some tomatoes.
You can stop toying with our emotions now, Greg. And you didn’t even leave the name…AGAIN. You expect us to believe you accidently forgot the first time or the second? Oh Amy…please put down your beautiful baby for just a second and type in the name! I know Greg’s at home now but don’t they have a computer up there you can use? We’re all waiting and don’t want to go to bed until we hear what her name is.

And, don’t think it escaped my notice that there is STILL NO NAME PROVIDED!!!
OK, so I guess we’ll just have to call her Gold Earrings Scott… Goldie for short?

Congratulations!! I hope you can get some rest, even though you probably want to gaze at that sweet baby all day and all night.
Rejoicing with you and looking forward to photos and a story (but take your time!),
Amy

Can’t tell you haw happy I am for you. Now listen sister, as much as we love to hear from you, please take your time and rest properly. We can wait and hear everything all in good time. Wish I had a baby myself but that’s another post!!!

Dear Amy,
Ok… How in the world did I get myself in this mess? I am checking a blog of some stranger every day and get excited about someone else’s news and pregnancy story. I have a really strange feeling, that I might even cook you dinner (if I were closer)… very weird!
So, am I just too slow or is it Hope?
And come to think about this whole thing, maybe it is because of Hope, that you bring people together who otherwise would be without.
Know you are in my prayers today.

My fouth had the 14-inch head. I distinctly remember thinking right after he was out, “I CAN”T have another baby(!!!).” But we’re expecting our sixth end of Feb.
The fifth was a faster labor with a normal head, same weight though (8′9″).
My first natural labor was with #2, and it was an experience like you w/your 5th (horrible). I’m curious to know how your labor went for you this time…
Congrats and God’s blessing and peace to you and Elisabeth Hope and the whole family :-)!

I can’t believe I got away with saying “Obviously, we’re still in labor.” Nobody took me to task for that one. Ha!
