Because God is our only sure promise and certain hope
Born November 14, 2007 at 5:12 PM
Weighing 8lbs. 13oz and 21″ long
For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute. Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
- Hebrews 6:13-20

She is absolutely beautiful.
So is her name. Congratulations!
I just realized she has the same birthday as my 6yo son!

Beautiful—the Scripture, the name, the baby girl you’ve longed to hold.
Congratulations to the entire Scott family.

P.S. Patiently awaiting the female version of the birth story! No offense, Greg, but we gals love all the details. Of course, not until Amy is home and settled! (As settled as you can be with 6 anyway…I know!)

Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful! God’s blessings are so wonderful, aren’t they? Congratulations to you both!
I won’t even gloat over the fact that her middle name is my baby girl’s first name. Nope. I won’t even say that I influenced you even one little bit. Because I am so not like that.
I can’t wait to see more pics!

Seriously I watched the video in honor of Elisabeth’s birthday. Anyone else watch it?
You know, normally most pregnancies I have with distant friends or ‘blog friendships’ seem so short… but yours didn’t! It seemed really long!

Yay! Beautiful name.
Comment by Sara C (November 15, 2007 @ 2:34 am )
Okay Miss Amy,
Two things:
First, I’ve always thought you and I are pretty similar in a number of ways - but this absolutely confirms it. My daughter (who just turned six) is named . . . Elisabeth Hope.
Naturally, the inspiration for her first name was Elisabeth Elliot, someone who has been (for you also, I think) a “virtual mentor” in my spiritual walk. We added Hope for its scriptural meaning –and because it’s my middle name too.
Second, I’m kicking myself for not getting in on your baby naming poll, since then I could take credit for your choice.
Congrats on your sweet girl!
Comment by emily (November 15, 2007 @ 2:45 am )

Congratulations to the Scott family, and welcome to your newest member.
Ok, she wasn’t born on Nov. 10, you didn’t name her after my husband (eric/erika), but you did use the middle name I suggested — Hope! I’m thinking that means you’re still open to a dog/cat exchange, but just didn’t want to be obvious about it. ; )
Seriously, beautiful name, and thank you for sharing with us.

This is my first time commenting on anyone’s blog… I stumbled across your site, believe many of the same things that you do…couldn’t help but like you. Then I noticed that you have an Elisabeth- with “s” instead of “z” and that made me like you more. We have and Elisabeth…she just turned two. However, it only took until about 2 hours after her birth to realize what we did to her. Whenever she is telling her name to someone that needs to write it down, she is doomed to always say- “It’s Elisabeth- with an “s”" Oh well. We choose Bible verses to go with each of our kids names…Elisabeth in the Bible was given a wonderful principle- “With God all things are possible.” We consistently pray that Elisabeth will stubbornly cling to that principle as she grows. Congratulations on your Elisabeth- she’s beautiful!

She is gorgeous and I love her name! Congratulations, Amy! When you’re feeling better and have a moment to spare, I’m really curious about how your induction went!

I love the name!
It’s my favorite name in the whole world, though I would not give it to one of my children, so that the others do not feel left out. Why did you choose to spell with the -s- and not -z-?

Congratulations! Beautiful name. Like the spelling. I bet the kids are doting on their new baby sister.

I didn’t even notice that you spelled Elisabeth with an “s” until someone pointed it out a few comments back. I take it that means she is named for Elisabeth Elliot. Right?

Congratulations! She’s beautiful and has a beautiful name! Love the spelling of Elisabeth!

Congratulations! Beautiful baby. Elisabeth is a beautiful name! My own daughter (now 20) is Elizabeth. I love the biblical spelling too though.
May God richly bless you and your family.

I am glad your newest blessing is finally in your arms - and hopefully there is a nice settled feeling to your tummy after months of upset and nausea, Amy! May the Lord bless you as you get to know the newest member of your Scott Family ball team. Maybe she’ll be the switch hitter you needed! She’s a sweetie!

this might be a lame thing to say, but I love the fact that you haven’t updated the blog for almost 5 days. I love the idea of a tired, busy, happy, overwhelmed, excited, relieved, not puking, bonding, rejoicing family who is too busy loving on each other to care about some silly blog. This is real life. This ’silence’, if I can call it that, is really spectacular to me and a good reminder of what I have to look forward to in February. Thanks for ‘being real’ in this area too, as you have been in so many others.

Amy,
What a beautiful baby she is! Since you have not posted a story or any more pictures, I am truly hoping that your recovery is going well and baby is healthy. I know how crazy those days were following the birth of my 6th child. She sent me “over the edge” as it were. I’m praying for a peaceful transition for you!

Just a note to say that we are doing well…but very tired. I plan to jot a little update tomorrow–hopefully!
Thank you for asking and for all the sweet notes! You all are the best. (And yes, it’s Elisabeth with an “s” after Elisabeth Elliot.)
Comment by Amy Scott (November 21, 2007 @ 12:18 am )
I am so glad she is here safely and all are doing well. I pray you are getting lots of sleep or at least rest, and NOT throwing up anymore!!

After I stopped taking Darvocet on an empty stomach 3 days postpartum for the KILLER afterpains, I am nausea-free and lovin’ it!
As for the birth story, I started typing it out tonight. Perhaps I’ll finish it this Friday or coming weekend, as we’ll have a full house this Thanksgiving.

Congratulations! She’s a beauty.
Comment by Janne (November 23, 2007 @ 8:52 am )
Thank you for that! I did not mean to be rude. Just curious why people choose one or the other. I’ve got the -z- version myself, so of course I’ve got preferences. But that’s a cool reason to choose a name!

Congratulations Amy! I’m very happy for you, Greg, and your family. Elisabeth Hope is such a beautiful name - I like your spelling of Elisabeth, too. Alice

Shoyldn`t Elisabeth be spelled with a z! It`s stupid to have an s!
Comment by anonymous (January 12, 2008 @ 6:52 pm )
I rarely do this, but here goes….
Shouldn’t “shouldn’t” be spelled with a u? It’s stupid to have a y.
Comment by Amy Scott (January 12, 2008 @ 8:03 pm )
Good for you Amy. Anonymous should check out the spelling of “Elisabeth” in the Bible!
Comment by Rhonda (January 12, 2008 @ 8:13 pm )
Amy, sorry for giving your troll so much attention but I really want to specutlate that Elizabeth with a z is anonymous’s real name.
Comment by sara (January 12, 2008 @ 8:15 pm )
No. Shoyldn`t should be spelled with a y! And it still is stupid to have a s in Elizabeth.
