Cranberry post?
Wednesday, Nov 21, 2007
I know exactly what you’re thinking. How could she forget about The Third Annual Cranberry Post, 2007 edition? I have no idea. I will never be a decent blogger. There were exactly ZERO emails asking for a repeat. I checked.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I know what I’m thankful for, and it’s not just that I’M NAUSEA-FREE!!!!!! Yes! And the sentiment is not just because I’m a postpartum blubbering mess. I truly love this family, this life, and this little baby God sent our family. How about you? Any good news to share?

I just *have* to leave a comment because there are none yet and the possibility of being first is dizzyingly exciting to me for some reason.
But truly, this is a beautiful picture of your children (6!). Yes, so much good He’s given! I am thankful for new found freedom and the blessing of my family, too.
A blessed Thanksgiving to you guys!

Congrats, Amy! Your family is absolutely darling. I should know. My kids are, as well.
Thanksgiving is my favorite time of year. Nine of our ten kids, their spouses and our precious grandson, Judah, who’s six months old, will be here.
Like you, I’m not blubbering because of hormones (that happened earlier today when my kids reminded me that I JUST HAVE to make homemade cinnamon rolls as is customary, on Thanksgiving morn), but because, when I think of Thanksgiving, I am so moved by the Lord’s doings in our lives throughout the year. Tomorrow morning, as a family, we will go around the room and remember, in spite of complaining much of the year, the goodness of our great God. I’m choked up writing that and will be tomorrow, as well.
As we go from person to person, we cannot help but remember and reflect on the bounty of the year. Not all the things we share are life-changing events, but they matter just as much. An example of one those things that I will share happened about a month and a half ago, and involved my fourteen-year-old son, Micah. It was one of those tangible answers to prayer that I classify as a whimsical answer. It was a frivolous request for which I asked God, but the answer was so meaningful and representative of God’s marvelous care in even the smallest details (I’ll refrain from using the word “dets,” as my kids do–I’m not that hip) of our lives.
We have a little jar in my home office into which we throw change. As it nears the top, I take it to a cash machine and, traditionally, two of our kids get to split the contents. Because the three daughters remaining at home are in college and have jobs, we now just split it with Micah, and Lydia, our eleven-year-old (you know the one–the one for whom you DIDN’T name Elisabeth, but I’m not bitter!). The jar was about 3/4 full, so Micah and I went to the store to cash in the change. I asked him if he had any idea how much was in the jar and he said that he stopped counting at $32. We dumped it in the machine and it began to count the coins. It got to around $47 or so with some still left to count. Micah pleaded aloud, “Come on, get to $50.” I prayed silently that it would get there. Micah also had a couple of coins in his pocket so he threw those in with the comment that it would probably get to $49.90 and then be done. Well, that’s exactly what happened. I prayed again and told him to look in the other machine and under it (I have no pride when it comes to money!), but, alas, nothing. I walked back away from the machine and there was a round shelf with flowers on it. I looked down, and I’m not kidding–I saw a dime! It was incredible. Micah knew that I had prayed and I reminded him that God does those kinds of things for us. He concurred and said that it was unbelievable that it was exactly $50.
To the average person, this isn’t an earth-shattering example of God’s greatness. But, to me, as a mom, I saw a loving Father’s finger pointing out a dime to, perhaps (and I don’t know the mind of God), remind us that nothing is small change to Him. And, if you don’t think He knew that dime would be there before the foundation of the world, well, I’ve got a house that’s losing equity by the day in the Bay Area of Northern CA that I’ll sell ya!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
Cathy
P.S. I left a note on Elizabeth’s blog a while ago (no, I DON’T just sit and read blogs all day) and left it off with a verse my husband showed me when he turned the October page to November on our calendar. He said he pondered it for a few moments and then showed it to me. I love the metaphors and language.
“Let us acknowledge the LORD;
let us press on to acknowledge him.
As surely as the sun rises,
He will appear;
He will come to us like the winter rains,
like the spring rains that water the earth.” Hosea 6:3

I just love this photo, especially the little guy helping to hold the baby. It reminds me of the delight my little boy showed when his brother was born; he just loved the baby’s little feet and couldn’t stop touching them and comparing them to his own.
You have a lovely family.
We do have some good news to share: we are expecting baby number twelve, July 2008.
Blessings to you and yours,
Amanda

Even if you should have only peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner tomorrow, it would a feast of Thanksgiving for the bountiful blessings of God visible in that photo. Congratulations on the birth of your baby daughter.

You do have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! That is truly a precious family you have there. And, being nausea-free… well, that’s just the added cherry on top!
Comment by Lady Why (November 21, 2007 @ 11:08 pm )
One can almost hear them all ooohiing and ahhhhinnng. And maybe a giggle or two from the little brother? No eyes for the camera, for photographer, no one distracted. They are all fixated, captivated, smitten.
Absolutely breathtaking shot. Your viewfinder captured love–love between parents, love of God knitting this child, love now of siblings embracing another one made in His image. Stunning.
I don’t usually comment, but the emotions that welled up just spilled over here on to the keyboard.
Your work, Amy, is worthy.
Such a calling, this motherhood.
Most blessed of Thanksgivings…

What an incredible picture. What a beautiful family. It has been such a privilege to get to witness these past months…of surviving the nausea, of managing a household of children when you’re tired and sick, of dreading and planning for the delivery. I’m so thankful that she’s born, and healthy, and you’re feeling well! Happy Thanksgiving!

Amy, your children are beautiful. Just a few minutes ago I was sitting on the couch with my youngest son, sipping my coffee while he was eating his apple beside me. We were curled up under a blanket, watching the weather report (snow, sleet, hail, etc…this is CANADA!) together. I thought to myself, “It doesn’t get any better than this.”
I was fine with that thought, until I was compelled to tell Christopher. I said, “You know what I was just thinking?”
“What?” he asked, still munching on his apple.
“It doesn’t get any better than this.” I began to blubber, and he munched on, oblivious. I explained that I loved him, and that I enjoyed just sitting with him, watching the news together. But my mind raced to the fact that this quiet moment was special. I am so blessed to be the mother of 12. I am so blessed to have been given this peaceful interlude with my twelfth child, before the entire household stirs and the normal family chaos ensues.
I GET that God is in the little things (thanks for that $50. story, Cathy!) and that we are blessed when we learn to acknowledge that. He is good, all the time. We, short-sighted beings that we are, need to train ourselves to see that.
Blessings to you and yours on this American Thanksgiving Day,
Janet

I am thankful for my family, and to God for giving it to me, for the good husband that I have, for the newly grown up son who is home for the holidays (the first time since he took a job after college graduation). I am grateful for the child that cannot be here because she lives in Michigan. This is my youngest daughter’s last year at home. She will go to college next year. I’ve got two step children that I am grateful for. I’m grateful for the new gas stove, and I’m grateful for the 25 pound turkey that’s in it, for the snug warm home I have. I am blessed beyond all measure, and I grieve that everyone in this world cannot be so blessed. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, and God bless you all.

Ditto to all the above sentiments…what a beautiful picture.
I am thankful that we recently found out we’re expecting our 8th baby. In spite of the morning sickness, I’m so grateful that God is allowing us to walk on this path again. After a 4 year gap (HUGE gap for us…we had 7 in 9 years), it’s just a precious thing to me.
Happy Thanksgiving, Amy!

Amy,
Thank you so much for sharing your life on the internet. Your family is beautiful! I am thankful for my own sweet family who daily challenges me to lean on the Lord for His wisdom and strength; (my husband edited what I wrote after this.) But what I really wanted to write is that I am thankful for people like you, and the Duggers, and all the others who hold up the candle and encourage us to trust the Lord and honor Him in the home. As a mother of 4 (5 come April) I am starting to stand out in the world and it can be uncomfortable at times. I have like-minded friends, but they are not always there to give me that shot in the arm that helps me to hold my head high and be proud of my growing belly. I know that children are a blessing from the Lord, but you get enough looks in the grocery store and you start thinking of ways to leave a few with Grandma so you won’t look so strange. That is why I’m drawn to your website. In some way I feel connected to a whole group of women who are striving to honor the Lord in just the same way. It is good to read magazines like Above Rubies, but I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to walk through your struggles. You have given us a real gift.
So as this 2nd piece of chocolate pecan pie settles, I just wanted to tell you that I am thankful for you and I pray you have a wonderful season of Thanksgiving.
Warmly,
Karen

Hello Amy! I haven’t commented here before but I know that my wife (Aimee) has been a faithful reader here and has often received some word of encouragement for from your writings. When we had gotten married, we didn’t know if she would be able to have children due to her just coming thru Ovarian Cancer. However, the Lord thought otherwise because He has chosen to bless us with six children in seven years.
What I thought was neat that here you were waiting for your sixth baby, while we were also waiting for our sixth. Our baby, Aimee Lynne, was born two and a half hours after your little girl! We ended up at the hospital due to complications but she and the baby are now doing fine.
Why am I writing this?! I don’t know. I just know that you have blessed my wife and now both of us couples have daughters born on the same day. In fact, when we got to the hospital, (the baby having already been born) my wife commented that our baby will now share her birthday with your little girl.
Thank you for your honesty in sharing of your struggles with raising a young family and teaching them the ways of God. God Bless you and your husband as you raise your daughter to glorify His name, and we will continue to do the same here.
God Bless!

It’s exciting to see all those little face and know that they are your blessings, isn’t it? Congratulations Scott family!
What am I thankful for? That the Lord has blessed me with a Godly, wonderful husband, 4 beautiful children and a Godly family surrounding us. Last, but not least, that there are about 5 weeks to go until we see our newest blessing! May the Lord make the weeks fly by!

One more thing before I (TRY TO) get to work on that birth story…
Janet, It’s been 80 degrees down here, and it’s funny to read about snow! Greg just hung new french doors (a two day project) because the old ones had rusted through. When he finished that and walked outside, he discovered the pool pump was broken. He fixed that next and walked in and I told him, “The A/C is broken.” So, he ordered the part for that.
Anyway, it’s fun to read about others sitting there in snow while we melt away down here.
Just rambling.

Yes! My good news is that a few days ago we found out we are expecting again in July! It is our fourth child and the fourth in five years. We are so thankful and excited and thank God that He allowed us to find out during this week of reflection and gratitude.
I love the family picture

Amy,
I had my baby boy on Thanksgiving! We arrived the hospital at 4 a.m. and he was born at 4:30…au natural.
No interventions at all…I had a section the first time, a medically induced VBAC the second time after my water broke but labor did not quickly ensue and this time…it just all went soo fast. God is SOOO good and SO gracious. And we named our son, James Henry. He is precious and we are so enjoying being home together as a family. (We came home today!) Blessings to you.
