House Project: Framing
Tuesday, Jan 22, 2008
The work continues on the house. This is the first house project we’ve done without us living in the place or doing the work ourselves. Blessed relief. If you’ve ever lived through a major remodel with tiny feet pattering about, you know what I mean. The framing is almost complete on the walls we are changing. For example, there were six bedrooms upstairs, but one of the bedrooms is becoming two bathrooms (the master bathroom and the kids’ bathroom). The rough plumbing and electric are next.
These pictures were taken on the farm this morning. It is the first snow of the season. Conversely, we have our windows open here in Florida, and the kids even went swimming this week. Just like folks “ooh” and “ahh” over Mickey Mouse, alligators, and the space shuttle, we get excited about snow. The first snow I ever saw was on our honeymoon, which happened 11 years ago this Friday. Isn’t that funny?
More blogging later. I’ve been offline lately just taking care of business here. I am the woman, you know.

Listen to you: “on the farm…”
It rolls off your tongue so naturally already!
Beautiful. I’m so happy for you that it’s being worked on *before* you move in!

VERY funny. We got married in early February, and since I am from Maryland which is just north enough to get cold, we got as far away from snow as we could for our honeymoon. Congratulations on the house progress!

Three cheers for remodeling BEFORE you move in and paying someone else to do it!!
When my oldest was 19 months and I was 6 weeks from delivery for my second son my husband began remodeling our only full bathroom. I almost needed a crane to lift me out of the bathtub! Not to mention the impossibility of washing my hair in the tub!! That little project wasn’t finished until about 2 weeks before my third child was born - 18 months later!!
Needless to say, I’m all for paying someone else to do it and living somewhere else while it’s being done!!!

Your farm looks wonderful in white. I live in MS and we just had our first snow in 7 years. We made snow icecream (not chocolate) at least a dozen times before it melted!
I completely understand the benefits of renovating without too many helpers, but to enjoy a view like yours, I’d almost be willing to live in a tent! Almost!

Happy Anniversary! We had our 11th in August. Aren’t you sometimes amazed at how much you’ve “accomplished” family-wise in those 11 years? We sometimes shake our heads and go “Wow, (almost) 7 children 9 and under…that’s pretty good!” (4 weeks and counting by the way….praying for 1 and 1/2 because I am just that tired of being round)

Maybe one time while you are there you will get a blizzrd, then you will have fun making snowmen on the land.Don’t laugh the blizzrd of 1993 hit big time in Alabama.

This is the first time I have ever seen anyone else on here with my name, and I have been reading well over a year! I guess I will have to change how I sign it.

I thought I had posted earlier but I don’t see it now. I was just going to say to post #12… I have never seen anyone else on here with my name in all the time I have been reading. (about a year and a half)

Snow? We’re not fans of snow around here. We had our first snow in eight years last Saturday and this happened. NOT a good weekend! Give me 80 degrees and sunshine all year round and I’d be one happy camper!
On the other hand, your farm is sooo beautiful!!! And, your house is looking wonderful! I am thrilled beyong thrilled watching it all come together! You are living my dream!!

You call that snow????!!!
I live in northern Michigan. That isn’t snow. That’s merely a little bit of cold dust. I’ve seen snow on the 4th of July.
Still, compared to Florida, I guess your move would be considered “heading north.”
Glad to see your new home is coming along. Getting all that work done before moving the furniture in will definitely be a blessing.
But really, that’s not snow.

Kelly, Anything below 65 degrees is snow-like weather. I am a Florida native.

Amy,
Being a Michigan native, I really can’t relate to you Florida types. I can’t imagine life without an occasional below-zero day. How can one go through an entire calendar year without feeling one’s nose hairs freezing solid when one steps into the frigid outdoors?
This fall, we installed a woodstove, so we’ve been quite toasty (in some parts of our house) this winter. Typically, we’ve had to keep our thermostat at 60 degrees during the winter because of the high price of LP gas. We’ve spent many winters shivering and piling on more sweaters and blankets. Most years, we would consider 65 degrees (in the house) balmy.
Kentucky. A few snowflakes. I doubt you’ll get to experience the frozen nose hair thing. Still, it’s a step north, a little closer to God’s country.
I really enjoy reading your blog. I’ve been reading it since a few months before the birth of your last son. My family always enjoys my stories about what’s going on with that “Amy lady in Florida. You know, the humble musing lady with the rocket scientist husband and the full quiver.” The story of the flat tires was probably our favorite so far.
Or maybe it was the diamond earring story. Of course, the baby-birthin’ stuff is always interesting too.
Keep on writing. You have a gift. When you compile all of this stuff into a book, I’ll buy a copy.

Ha! Kelly, I can relate. Around our Sunday lunch table with all our extended family, I sometimes expound on an Amy story or two.
Amy, we refer to you as “Amy. You know, the one with the rocket scientist.”
What can I say, you’re famous in these parts! I’d have to say our favorite story is the one from your time in California when you slammed the door on the arm of the guy knocking on your door. It’s a timeless classic we tell again and again! (We don’t get out much.)
Comment by Lady Why (January 26, 2008 @ 7:42 pm )
Thanks Kelly and Lady Why. I almost forgot about that time I slammed the door frightfully! That was funny…you should’ve been there.
Kelly, They are placing bets on me about how long I’ll last up there in the frigid north. They say I’ll sell the farm within the year. It is 75 degrees here today, and I don’t mind wearing a little sweater.

Hi - I found your blog from my friend Angela’s friends list (trusting daily). — What an incredible blessing you have with your wonderful land and farmhouse. God is good! I would love to come back here and read more about your precious family. I am the oldest of 7 and it was such a wonderful experience and a memory I cherish. - Charity
