Broken
Thursday, Feb 14, 2008
Stuff kept breaking today.
There was the kitchen cabinet paneling that just… fell off. There was the cup that got stuck in garbage disposal. There was the dishwasher that broke, but that’s nothing new. Then there was the light bulb that popped and shattered when my son flipped on the light. The fourth grade English DVD’s for school kept skipping, for which my son was thrilled to miss, and the remote control for it? Yep, I ordered a new one of that, too.
So, when my husband told me his flight was delayed because the plane broke, it was just, you know, old news.

I haven’t posted a recent picture in ages. Just in case you need to recognize me in passing, my hair is darker. Because after 8 days of this cold virus (for all 8 of us) and last month’s flu, I’m not ever leaving the house again. You people carry diseases.

Return Home

You look beautiful, Amy.
Happy (belated) Valentine’s Day!

Amy, I laughed right out loud, again… you really are funny! I’m sure my married daughters would agree with you. They’ve just had most of their children go through croup and some other diseases picked up from those germy people out there.
I want you to know that my second daughter, Heather, recently got the internet (finally!) in her home. I sent her your way, and she spent three hours reading your blog. She told me she likes you.
I do, too.
Love,
Janet

Amy! It’s nice to see you. It reminds me of trying to get a hold of you when we were both in Abingdon! Well, maybe next time.
Thank you for your series on “3 under 3″, I have sent several ladies there for a smile. I hope that things get fixed around there and stop breaking. I’ll also pray that ya’ll stay healthy!

Pretty mama and baby.
I miss your sidebar pic. This is nice.

Wow, great picture! You look beautiful, and that cute little one isn’t too bad, either.
I know what you mean about not leaving the house. About this time each year, I start threatening to boycott the outside world, too … but there’s only five of us, not eight!
Praying everyone stays happy and healthy … how’s the little one doing?

It’s nice to see an updated picture! Thanks for sharing!
Are you sure you just had a child?

You look so fresh and rested! And, I agree… people carry diseases.
I just keep repeating only 14 more days til March, only 14 more days til March, only 14 more days til March…
March is not really anything special but in my mind March means spring, March means no more sickness, and March means the clouds will separate and rays of warm sunshine will once again beam down to earth with the wafting strains of angelic music in the background.
Can you tell I’m a little stir crazy … and, oh so very tired of winter?

Of course, I won’t need to know what you look like if you aren’t leaving the house… Beautiful picture, though. Thanks for sharing it.

Can I just say: I WANT YOUR HAIR! What in the world do you use to keep it so long and shiny? Are you just blessed with the “salon-beautiful” hair gene? Oh wait, maybe it’s just those prenatal vitamins that I keep forgetting to take? Huh. That’d figure.

You do look beautiful, Amy! And the diseases are running rampant indeed! : (
So sorry things kept breaking - sounds like you handled that with grace! I would have been…..ughhmmmm…..frustrated, let’s say! ; (

Janet, Please say hello to your daughter and send my regards. And Margaret, I will be sure to look you up if I’m in town again. We still own rental properties in Bristol.
Haha. My younger sister was like, “Your hair is so awful.” And then she put in shine stuff; it was my first time with shine stuff in my hair. This is very amusing to me that you noticed.
And yes, I am certain that I just had a baby…like every night at 2 a.m.
Here are the stats:
-40 pounds= high school malnourished state
-30 pounds= 2002 when I was running 3 miles a day
-20 pounds= what I weighed when I got married
-10 pounds= where I need to be to button my clothes
I’m just shooting for the 10 pounds right now.

You are hilarious! I’m a lurker most of the time and rarely ever comment. We have a mutual friend, Donna P., who used to live in FL. She’s up here in Bristol and she was telling me about how you guys got together last time you were up this way. She says you’re a hoot and I’ll have to agree! I love the statement of how you are not going out because “you people” carry diseases! LOL! Thanks for a good laugh!

Amy-
You are hilarious!!! After reading your blog, I got a DEJAVU feeling. We’ve got 6 kids under 10, and we have had every virus under the sun this winter! AGHHHH! And your hair is beautiful!!

Great picture Amy!
We’re on day 7 of the flu. Oh joy! So far only 3 of us have dropped.

Oh rats, now why is my RSS not updating? I didn’t know you had posted, and I missed this.
You both are beautiful!

Oh, and…is your household better? I think this was our third Sunday away from church due to illness.
I think it would help to just write off the months of January and February. Plan to be in. Plan to be sick. Plan to never leave your home again and order Kleenex off of Amazon.
Then…if it is better than that…we’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Comment by Holly (February 18, 2008 @ 11:45 am )
Holly,
No, we are still not well. I’ve been to church twice since the baby was born, and both times, we caught a nasty virus. I don’t think people realize what we have to go through when they go out in public with “just a little cold.” The three youngest wake frequently in the middle of the night, often tag-teaming. Greg was out of town last week, and I counted about 3-4 hours of sleep in a 48 hour period. My daughter is barely 3-months-old, and it hurts my heart to hear her coughing so badly.
I don’t want to start a firestorm with this comment, but it’s getting to the point where attending church is just not worth it at this season…

Sonya, Please give Donna a hug for me.
Brea, Sorry I missed this. See my comment above.

Amy,
Not only do I concur wholeheartedly with your assessment that attending church may not be “worth it” during the flu season, I’ve almost gotten to the point that I actually feel like an irresponsible, negligent parent when I do. Like I’m throwing the children to the lions when I take them to Sunday school.
At least one will inevitably get sick within 24 hours and then the whole house will “share” it for the next week or two.
The more kids we have, the more I long for spring each year!
Comment by emily (February 19, 2008 @ 2:42 am )
Here’s another family that feels like hibernating during Jan. and Feb. is worth it, too. We have a stomach bug and the kids are taking turns throwing up. Yeah!! Only four more kids to go!
Comment by Another Heather (February 19, 2008 @ 12:13 pm )
Nope. Don’t think I saw you. Of course, you were hiding in your house. We were just at KSC on Wednesday, and I thought of you as my kids climbed in the play area. =)
