So you let her go to the farm all by herself and what does she do? She spends two days looking at rental properties near our new home.
Go figure.

I have no experience, but I can give you three tips and a story about why you shouldn’t do rentals…but wait, that was your advice. =)
Am I really the first comment?

We should make her read her series!

It’s worse than y’all think… She actually made an offer on one place.
(Oh, and don’t tell her father-in-law. He already thinks we’re crazy.)

Way too funny! Maybe she thinks that in a nicer area there will not be such bad renters.

You are a crazy woman!
I’ll live vicariously through you….the market is almost ready here for me to buy up a house. Hubby says a few more months.
Will you post pics soon of the farm? NOT THE RENTAL.

I guess this falls under the “do as I say, not as I do” category…..

Hi Amy,
I read your blog from time to time, but this is the first time I’ve commented.
My husband and I met with an attorney this morning to evict our current tenants. Our attorney told us that she does about 35 evictions a week — and we live in a small to medium sized community.
But does that deter us from making plans to spruce up the property once these tenants are gone? Of course not!
My husband’s uncle once rented a house to the same woman for over 20 years. He then decided that he needed to sell the house. She begged him to give her just a couple more years because the place had become “home” to her. He respected her request and held off for a couple of years so she could take her time to find another place. And, of course, the house was in great condition when she left. I guess we keep thinking that someone like her will be the next one for us, but so far (16 years into it) we haven’t had such success. Maybe it’s your turn?

Oh too funny! Thanks for the chuckle, Amy and Greg!
You gotta do what you love, right?
